Patrick Carver - NCAA Division III All-America First Team

Congratulations to Patrick Carver for being selected 1st Team All-American this week. Patrick is a product of the Springfield Soccer community, having grown up with MedPay/Springfield Soccer Club, as well as playing for Parkview HS (2005) and the Springfield Demize (2007). Patrick also won a National Debate title in 2004 and wrote a three part series on College Recruiting for this website following his experience in choosing Emory University. Intro - Choosing a College. Choosing a College Part 2. How To Get Recruited. Choosing The Right School.

Here’s a video from his final Club season, the summer of 2004 when the boys lost a close 0-1 match against Busch SC in the opening game of the tournament. Remember, nothing comes easy if you want to reach the top.

I’m looking for a copy of the highlight video from the Glendale vs Parkview game in 2004. When I find that, I’ll add it as well. Below is the complete press release on Patrick’s award from the Emory web site.

(Dec. 17) Emory University’s Patrick Carver (Parkview 2005) was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/ adidas NCAA Division III All-America first team, based on his performance during the 2007 season.

Carver becomes the 12th All-American in the history of the Emory Men’s Soccer program, and the first since midfielder Karl Dix was named to the third team in 2005. The junior is the fourth first-team all-American in school history, joining Derrick Beare (1984), Matt Arnett (1989), and Ho Lee (1990) as Eagles to have earned the honor. Carver joins Arnett, Boris Jerkunica (1985) and Michael Smith (1996) as the only Emory underclassmen to be named to an all-America team.

Carver completed the 2007 season with a conference-leading 16 goals and 41 points, to go along with nine assists. He scored an Association-best six goals and five assists for 12 points in University Athletic Association (UAA) matches, en route to being named the UAA Player of the Year. Carver finished the campaign ranked 17th in the nation in points per game, 18th in the nation in assists per game, and 20th in the nation in goals per game.

Emory finished the 2007 season ranked 13th in the nation, the best finish by the program since the 1984 season. The Eagles went 16-3-0 during the season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

    Congrats Patrick, that’s quite impressive.

And great video Ole. That stuff is always fun to dust off and bring back memories, especially for those of us who watched that team play so many games.

I’m hardly surprised. Patrick has always maintained an incredible work ethic, which, when coupled with his talent, has allowed him to stand out even among very good players. I’m going to pass this information along to the rest of the school asap.
