This Week In Soccer

Got to do it folks, I’m addicted. It also helps me plan my week so what the heck, might as well share it, right?

Champions League soccer returns this week. Tuesday we get ManU vs Sporting (Portugal) and on Wednesday, my home boys Rosenborg take on Chelsea. Both games are on ESPN2 and begin at 1:30 pm. And on Friday be sure and tune in and catch the Champions League Highlight Show. Whenever there are games, they do this one hour show the following Friday and it’s an hour of goals and updates on who’s beating up on who. 1:00 pm generally but it’s moved in the past so check the schedule that day.

Division 1 soccer heads to the 2nd round. If you’ve got friends or family in Tulsa, you might want to make a road trip on Wednesday to catch Tulsa hosting Central Connecticut State in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 28th beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Golden Hurricane advanced to the tournament, after receiving Conference USA’s automatic bid, and winning both the C-USA regular season and tournament titles. TU has tallied a 12-0-2 mark in its last 14 games, including a win over No. 4 Creighton, No. 10 South Carolina and tied #8 SMU. The streak began with their win over the MSU Bears on September 16th.

Division II play has reached the Final 4. The women’s final will be broadcast on Saturday afternoon and the men’s on Sunday afternoon, both on CSTV. Grand Valley State, who knocked Drury out of the tournament in the round of 16, defeated Nebraska-Omaha to reach the Final 4. Division III and NAIA soccer has finished, I’ll have some details later this week with updates on some of our regional players and their seasons.

The Southwest All-Stars list is almost complete. Today or tomorrow I hope!
