First shot by Hawks wide left. Chiefs getting good play in the middle. Melugin shakes off a tackle in the center circle and sends a through ball down the left center. Kyler Temple runs onto it at the top of the box. 2nd touch slides by the keeper, hits the inside of the upright and across the line. Kickapoo leads 1-0 in the 12th. Melugin hits the crossbar with a header from a set piece.
Hawks tie the game 3 minutes later and take the lead in stoppage time.
Rockhurst’s Peter O’Neill, Alex Sweetin and Jack Russell scored early in the second half, stretching the Rockhurst lead to 5-1. After Kickapoo’s Temple scored to make it 5-2, the Hawklets’ Devin Springer closed out the scoring for the 6-2 final.
Kickapoo (22-4) will play Mehlville (16-11-2) for third place at noon today.
