Kickapoo Chiefs - 1
Glendale Falcons - 0
Via a goal by Ian Kennedy midway through the first half, the Kickapoo Chiefs win the Sectional match this evening and advance to the Quarterfinals where they will face Ft Zumwalt West. The Jaguars were 3-0 winners over Sedalia Smith-Cotton this evening in Jefferson City.
The Chiefs achieved their win this evening despite the fact that they were missing three starters (Colton Sexton, Preston Bates and Lane Chapman) but they got the important first goal and handled Glendale’s assault over the next 60 minutes. That attack included a breakaway in the 41st minute that goalie Adam Legg (pictured, receiving congratulations from Assistant Coach Mike Hines) stoned with a diving save. There would also be several corner kicks, break away opportunities for Robbie Harbach and Devon Newport and a direct kick from the 18 that sailed high.
The Chiefs and Jaguars have some familiarity. Ft Zumwalt West visited along with Trinity and played Glendale and Kickapoo the weekend of September 15-16 2006. The Jaguars lost both games.
The Ft Zumwalt West Jaguar’s girls team are the defending Class 2 Champions, defeating Incarnate Word last June for the title.
