NCAA Division II Finals Broadcast Schedule

For those of you with CSTV, you can catch the Division II Championship Finals on TV this weekend.

The NCAA Division II Women’s Championship, featuring Franklin Pierce and Tampa, will be broadcast live Saturday December 1st at 12 pm CT. Franklin Pierce shut down Seattle Pacific 2-0 and Grand Valley State fall to Tampa in a 2-1 decision on Thursday to reach the Final.

The NCAA Division II Men’s Championship final pairing will be determined this evening, with Lincoln Memorial playing Montevallo and Midwestern St. goes up against Franklin Pierce. Track the games here.

The game will be broadcast live on CSTV on Sunday December 2nd at 1 pm CT

Lance Parker Earns MVC All-Academic Honors

bearhead_125.jpgMissouri State senior goalkeeper Lance Parker has been tabbed a first-team selection on the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Men’s Soccer Team. MSU sophomore midfielder Johannes Demarzi was an honorable mention selection.

It’s the second consecutive year in which Parker, an Oklahoma, City, Okla. native, has received the honor. A conference standout in goal for the Bears the past two seasons, Parker maintains a 3.67 GPA as a general business major. On the field Parker made 134 saves and allowed just 26 goals this season for a goals against average of 1.25.

Parker was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII first team for the second consecutive year. He was named the league’s defensive player of the week on October 1, then tabbed as the MVC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, October 4. Parker finished his Missouri State career as a two-time All-MVC second team selection.

Demarzi maintains a 3.43 GPA as a poitical science major at MSU. The Carmichael, Calif. native started all 20 contests for the Bears this season, finishing second in points (12) on five goals and two assists. He led the team in shots taken (40) and shots on goal (17).

Bradley & Creighton Reach Round of 16

Good news for fans of Missouri Valley Conference soccer this evening as both the Creighton Blue Jays and the Bradley Braves have advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division I Soccer playoffs.

Bradley defeated the #6 nationally-ranked Indiana Hoosiers, at Indiana, via PK’s following a 1-1 tie through two overtime periods. The final Indiana PK, taken by freshman Michael Roach (Chaminade/Gallagher), hit the crossbar and gave Bradley the 5-4 advantage.

This is the first time Bradley has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Men’s tournament, using a 2-0 home victory Saturday versus DePaul to set up tonights win over seven-time national champion Indiana. They will face Maryland this weekend.

Creighton shut out the Southern Methodist Mustangs 3-0 this evening, getting the first in the 6th minute from Tim Bohnenkamp and a 2nd late in the first period. 2008 Boys Southwest All-Stars Roster Announcement

Southwest Soccer All Stars The 4th Annual Southwest All-Stars Game, presented by SGFsoccer.com and Springfield Soccer Club, will be held Thursday June 19th, 2008 at the Cooper Soccer Complex at Lake Country Soccer. There will be a Girls Game and the Boys Game.

This year’s boys roster includes players representing 21 teams for the 40 players. The breakdown by school and class includes:
• Class 1 – five (5) players from four (4) schools
• Class 2 – twelve (12) players from six (6) schools
• Class 3 – twenty-three (23) players from eleven (11) schools

The roster includes players from the three regional teams that reached the State Final 4 this year – Kickapoo, Cassville and Crocker.

The roster is led by Heath Melugin, Kickapoo/Missouri State, recognized this year at the All-Midwest level. Melugin was also recognized as the Player of the Year in the Southwest Region while teammate Zack Hay/Missouri Science & Technology was chosen the Defensive Player of the Year. Glendale’s Patrick McCarthy was Keeper of the Year in the Region.

Nominations were sought from the Coaches at the twenty-nine (29) boys teams in three classes that play soccer in the Southwest Missouri region.

The event is organized jointly by SGFsoccer.com, Southwest Missouri’s soccer resource, and the Springfield Soccer Club, home to over 20 teams including the regions first State Championship squad, the U16 boys who also reached the Region II Semi-finals.
