Missouri State Lady Bears

bearhead_125.jpgThe Lady Bears host the Conference leader Friday night at 7:00 pm at Plaster. Illinois State has a defense that has only allowed two goals in their four conference games to-date, a record only the Bears can improve upon having only given up a lone goal in four games, in this case their 0-1 loss to #2 Evansville two weeks ago.

Illinois State is 2-0-1 against common opponents, winning against Creighton at home while the Bears tied at Creighton, beating Northern Iowa 3-0 on the road while the Bears won 4-0 at home and tying Evansville 1-1, again at home while the Bears lost on their visit there.

It points to the parity in the Conference although of the seven teams, only the top three have positive records overall. If the Bears can get at least a tie, with a win against Indiana State on Sunday it should earn them a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

From the Missouri Valley Conference website:
Brine/MVC Offensive Player of the Week - Allison Osmundson, Missouri State, JR, D, Marshalltown, Iowa
Missouri State’s Allison Osmundson scored two goals and added an assist for the Bears as MSU posted two conference victories over the weekend. Both goals were her first and second of the year. Osmundson scored the only goal of the contest in the victory over Drake and she led the Bears offensively with two shots, both on goal. Osmundson sparked the Bears offense when she scored the first goal of the match and added an assist in the win over Northern Iowa.

Brine/MVC Defensive Player of the Week - Jackie Jasper, Missouri State, JR., G, Lockport, Ill.
Goalkeeper Jackie Jasper anchored the Bears defense recording two shut out victories over the University of Northern Iowa and Drake. Jasper posted 10 saves on the weekend, earning her the number one spot in the Valley in goals against average and save percentage.
