This Week In Soccer

It’s a relatively quiet week, I could almost be accused of picking this week for my vacation on that basis. I don’t deserve that much credit however. I was just ready to get away…

The high school game with the most potential impact is tonights game in Rolla, with the Glendal Falcons visiting. Rolla has been quietly going about their business on the East side and in the words of a coach that lost to Glendale early this season, Rolla is the best team he’s seen this year. The Falcon’s are probably on their bus as I type this from an internet cafe in Chicago so they are probably going into this one recognizing that the Bulldogs should never be under-estimated but… I’ll be watching for the score on this one. Rolla is 6-0-0 in the Ozark Conference at the moment.

Update – I see the Falcon’s are paying attention to the competitive challenge

Thursday there will be a game with implications for District 12, Class 3. The Neosho Wildcats visit Parkview. I don’t have the records for all of the teams but the winner of this game will likely position themselves well to avoid Kickapoo in the District 12 playoff, looking at 2nd or 3rd instead of the 4th spot.

On the College front, the SBU Bearcats have moved into 3rd place in the MIAA and face number #1 ranked Central Missouri on Friday. They have gone 5-1-1 since the middle of September, their only loss coming to the Jennie’s on September 22nd. The result of their road game, and Missouri Southern’s visit on Saturday, will determine both teams chances of reaching the NCAA Regional games.

Saturday Kickapoo and Glendale head to Columbia to face off against Hickman and Rock Bridge, games that will help prepare them for the District playoffs that will begin at the end of the month.

I think West Plains visiting Joplin tonight may have some bearing on the class 2 district 5 rankings by providing a common opponent for a couple of teams. Carthage beat Joplin this weekend in the Joplin tourney.
