The SLU Billikens went 2-0 this weekend, defeating the #2 ranked Indiana Hoosiers 2-1 Saturday evening in front of a crowd of almost 3900 to go with their 1-0 win on Thursday over Loyola Marymount.
The Hoosiers also lost on Thursday evening to the #16th ranked Creighton Bluejays by a score of 2-1. The losses drop Indiana to 3-2-1 on the season.
The game was very active, with SLU come out strong to start the game. The first opportunity fell to Dado who saw his shot go off the upright in the 16th minute while Kyle Patterson saw his follow up shot deflected up and just wide. The Billikens defense then gave Hoosiers midfielder Brad Ring to much time and space - Ring’s strong shot from outside the box in the 26th gave the Hoosiers their only lead of the weekend.
The Billikens struck back late in the half when Dado got past the defense on the right side within the box. His low hard cross was knocked down by the GK but it was captain Brian Grazier who pounced on it and pushed it past the keeper to tie the score in the 42nd minute.
The Billikens got the game winner in the 60th when Kyle Patterson, an active contributor from his right flank position, collected a loose ball when a defender mis-cleared it, burying his shot. While the Billikens had built up a sizable shot advantage during the second half, the Hoosiers attacked relentlessly in the final 15 minutes. The best opportunity came in the 86th when x broke in on the left side of the box, only to see his hard shot to the near post parried wide (pictured above) by sophomore y.
