Chris Schuler, Creighton Sophomore and son of local referee Chris Shuler, was named Brine / Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Schuler was a leader on the Bluejay defense which limited nationally-ranked UCLA to just three shots on goal in 110 minutes of play in a scoreless draw Saturday in Omaha. His play in the middle of the Bluejay defense helped shut down the high-powered attack of the 2006 national runners-up and preseason No. 1 squad. He used his 6-foot-4 frame to clear balls in the air along with spectacular challenges on the ground, as the CU defense posted its second straight shutout of the season to lower its goals against average to 0.58.
Brian Fishback (Parkview 2005) scored in two straight games at the University of Indianapolis, getting the game-winner against Saginaw Valley State while getting the lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Oakland City Oaks. He’s got a hot foot according the website, getting a goal in Tuesday’s win as well. The Greyhounds are 4-1-1 going into GLVC games at Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana this weekend. I see he’s wearing #10 as well
Jacob Plocher (West Plains 2004) has started all 4 games for NAIA William Penn University (Oskaloosa, IA) playing in the midfield. The Statesmen play in the Midwest Classic Conference, made up of primarily Iowa based schools including Mount Mercy where my cousin’s daughter attends school.
Jessica Brixey (West Plains 2007) has scored 5 goals already this season for the Neosho County Panthers. Her most recent was the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Blue River CC.
Matt Saner (West Plains 2006), Chris Hernandez (Joplin 2006), Joey Ekstam (Parkview 2007), Aaron Hamilton (Kickapoo 2007), Dustin Smith (West Plains 2007) and Steve Lincoln (Waynesville 2007) play for the Neosho County Panthers who are the defending Conference Champions in the Kansas JCCC where they are already 7-1 on the season.
Ross Chaffin (Greenwood 2007) plays for the Division I Denver University Pioneers who have beaten Stanford and Marquette en route to a 3-1-1 record. Ross is training as a left back for the Pioneers, a new position for him.
