Drury junior forward Marco Cherisma scored his league-leading 12th goal to lift the Panthers to a 1-0 victory at Missouri-Rolla in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Tuesday night. Cherisma provided the match’s only point when he scored off an assist from freshman Adam Peterson from 18 yards out with less than three minutes left in the opening half. UMR’s best chance to score after the Panthers moved in front came in the latter stages of the contest when Nick Landon got free behind the Drury defense. However, his scoring chance got stopped by Logan Hoffman and an ensuing corner kick was cleared out.
Junior Logan Hoffman had three saves in picking up his sixth victory, and fourth shutout, in goal. The Panthers out-shot the Miners 16-6 as UMR fell to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Miners (3-2, 0-2 GLVC) will play on the road this weekend starting with a Friday game at Wisconsin-Parkside.
On Sunday at Missouri - St Louis, Cherisma scored an unassisted goal at the 42:59 mark to give the Panthers their first GLVC win of the season over the Tritons. Junior keeper Logan Hoffman posted a shutout, though was credited with no saves as the Panthers out-shot UMSL 11-4 for the contest.
The Panthers improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in league play with their fourth straight shutout victory at Rolla on Tuesday.
Drury now heads into a key GLVC homestand this weekend, playing host to league preseason favorite SIU Edwardsville on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Quincy at noon on Sunday.
