I’ll be at the Calvary Bible vs Baptist Bible College game this afternoon at Cooper #2, beginning at 4pm.
The big news this week, while not local, is the start of the Women’s World Cup. Did anyone catch the opening game this morning between Germany and Argentina? The US plays North Korea tomorrow morning (4am on ESPN2) and Sweden on Friday (4am on ESPN2). I’d love to welcome a regular correspondent who would like to write about the games for the benefits of the readers of Springfield Soccer. Anyone interested?
Speaking of volunteers, Coach Alf Bilbao of the Drury Panthers sent a note this morning indicating that they are looking for a Youth Team that would like to work the sidelines as ball girls/ball boys at their home games this week. There are two games Friday (5pm and 7:30 pm) as well as Sunday (12 pm and 2:30 pm). They’ll feed the kids between games. Contact Coach Bilbao at 417-873-7449 if you have interest.
Speaking of the Panthers, their game Friday is against the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars. The men are ranked #5 and the Panthers #6 in the Great Lakes Region which should lead to a very competitive match. This is the bar they need to measure themselves against and qualifies as a must see game this Fall. For the ladies, Drury is ranked #9 while SIU-E is unranked but as a Conference game, a must win. Sunday Quincy comes to town, pitting the #8 Lady Hawks against #9 Panthers while the men are ranked at #9.
Kickapoo heads to St Louis this week. Thursday they face off against defending state champion Chaminade as well as Mehlville on the weekend. Rolla heads North to the Parkway tournament where they’ll test themselves against each of the Parkway Schools.
Missouri Southern and Southwest Baptist host a pair of games this weekend, with Truman at MSSU on Friday and SBU on Saturday while Northwest Missouri State starts at SBU and then travels to MSSU. These are MIAA Conference games and must wins to get a good start in the Conference.
MSSU Men host Dana on Friday evening as part of a double-header with the women.
