The Panthers hosted an Invitational Tournament this weekend. On the women’s side, the University of Missouri - Rolla Miners and Drury Panthers’s each playing Upper Iowa University and Oakland City (IN).
The Panther’s opened the weekend series against Upper Iowa in a game that was 1-0 at the half. Junior Melissa Perry, one of a core group of juniors being counted on to lead this years team, scored the opening goal in the 29th minute. Freshman Aly Reynolds (pictured), who assisted on Perry’s goal, got the second minutes into the first half on an assist from freshman Kelsey Long. The final score was 3-1.
In the game today against Oakland City, the Panther’s shut out their opponent 7-0 with goals from freshman Aly Reynolds, junior Chloe Moushey, junior Melissa Perry, junior Sarah “Goody” Goodman, sophomore Emily West and the first career goals from redshirt freshman Sarah Owens and Alyssa Alcorn. Freshman Jessie Sanderson and Laura Welch earned the shutout.
Drury opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play next weekend, visiting Missouri-Rolla (5 p.m.) on Friday and Missouri-St. Louis (noon) on Sunday.
