Beautiful evening last night. The Rockhurst Hawks certainly enjoyed it as they took advantage of a lackadaisical Bears squad to earn another 3-0 win in advance of their season opener Saturday. Tommy Heinemann, at full strength it appears having removed the knee brace he wore this summer while playing for the St Louis Lions (PDL), is in mid-season form as he scored a pair of goals. One in each half, both from within the six yard box, the first came on a pretty header from Adam Johnson’s cross from the left. The second came on a second chance, nodding in a ball that goalkeeper Lance Parker redirected after Jacob McMahon was able to get into the box down the left side.
The Bears sluggishness is not too surprising given their two-a-day practice schedule since practice opened two weeks ago, including a session yesterday morning in advance of the game. I saw plenty of players, with several playing more then one position, making it hard to identify any trends. That will have to wait for the start of the season.
The Bears open their season in nine days against Centenary, Saturday September 1st at 7:00 pm in Plaster Stadium. The game opens a string of four home games in eight days culminating in the Comfort Inn/Diadora Tournament the Bears host September 7th and 8th.
