It’s Deadline week for me - time to get SGFsoccer.com - The Magazine completed and off to the printers so it can be in your hands next month. There are some High School coaches I haven’t heard from still so if you want to be certain your boys are given their due in the Premiere issue, ask your coach if he/she has been in contact with me.
The college teams have begun their exhibition season, checking out their new players in game conditions while also learning whether the returning players came in prepared to compete. You have a couple of chances this week to get an early look:
Tonight Missouri State is scheduled to visit Joplin and take on their second Division II NCAA qualifier, this time the Missouri Southern Lions. I’m not certain the game will be played, I’ve reached out to the coaches to find out. I’ll let you know as I learn more. Update - the game is still on as of 10:15 am. 1:45 pm confirmation from MSSU - game on!
On Wednesday, the Missouri State men’s team will host Rockhurst University. This is always a good game and it provides an early look at a GLVC opponent of Drury’s so we can expect to see the Panther’s out in force that evening as well.
In addition, both Missouri Southern and Rolla will be hosting games this weekend on their campuses. Games will be played on Friday and Sunday. Watch for more later this week as I get the calendar up-to-date while dealing with deadlines.
The High School teams have established Varsity rosters and reaching out to their Booster Clubs and introducing the teams. Glendale had their traditional Tailgate event last Thursday, tonight the Ozark Tigers have the “Redneck scrimmage”. Keep an eye out, and you can find out more by checking out the websites. I have links to all of the teams on my site.
A shout out is in order to the Carrera U18 girls team. You can check out a photo set from a pair of games they played last week against Missouri Western and Central Missouri.
I’ve already noted the U17 World Cup schedule for you. We also have a pair of games on ESPN2 this week of the primary National teams. The Men are in Sweden (did you get tickets Jan?) and the game will be broadcast live Wednesday at 1:30 pm. (Update - on FSC only it appears) The Women have their final warm up match prior to the Women’s World Cup that begins next month. They can be seen on Saturday at 8:30 pm when they host Finland.
And for the parents, if you want to be better prepared for the upcoming season, consider registering for the three hour Missouri Coaching Clinic being held next Monday at Lake Country Soccer. Become an informed consumer.
