It’s a bit early but I’m feeling the need to begin pointing to key activities in the upcoming week. Maybe it’s because I’ve now sent two nephews off to college. The first headed down to Auburn last week with his parents and I know his mom misses him. The second I just left, after coffee at Mudhouse (downtown Springfield’s finest meeting joint). He’s attending Meramec CC in Kirkwood along with Ben Hamilton (Glendale 2006) who has transferred there from Barton County CC. Is there such a thing as a Soccer Uncle?
Did you catch the story Saturday about Anne Felts? A Rolla 2001 graduate, she played for the University of North Carolina, including wearing the Captain’s armband as a senior.
Missouri State begins preseason practice this week. Tomorrow I think, today must be a day to handle the paperwork and get the new boys checked in. I’ll get out for some photos and an initial look sometime this week.
Nixa begins classes this week on Wednesday, I think they are the first in the region. That same day the Missouri Southern Lions are visiting Drury University to scrimmage the Panthers. Kick off is set for 6:30 pm so if you want an early look at the young men, come on out. I know at least one soccer mom who is feeling the separation already and that’s with a son in a dorm while she’s on the South side.
The KC Wizards are at home on Sunday, in a rematch with the current Eastern Division leaders NE Revolution. A win puts the Wizards in second and positions them for a run to the top. If you’ve been considering catching the LA Galaxy game September 27th (and David Beckham) there is a special three game package that includes the game Sunday and DC United on October 5th. The KC Wizards play an exciting, attacking style of futbol. You need to take in a game sometime this year!
The U17 World Cup begins it’s month long run on Saturday in South Korea. The USA is in a group with Tajikistan, Tunisia and Belgium. The overall calendar is here. The US schedule looks like this:
August 20: Tajikistan v USA, 6:00 am live on ESPNU
August 23: USA v Tunisia, 3:00 am live on ESPN2
August 26: Belgium v USA, 2:00 am TBA
Speaking of calendars, I’m trying to simplify the process of tracking and sharing this information. The first step I’ve taken is consolidating all college games into a single calendar, rather than separate men’s and women’s calendars. I’ve also got a high school calendar and then a general Soccer calendar, for various club, Lake Country Soccer, remaining MLS games and National team events.
Alternately, I just create a single calendar and use some nomenclature to make it easy to find what you are looking for. For example, for the Drury exhibition Wednesday I’ve added (M-exhibition) to distinguish from the women’s game.
Give me some feedback. Which would you prefer?
1. A single calender you can reference on my website but may have to look at a couple dozen game listings to find the one you are looking for OR
2. Three calendars, only one shown but the other two accessible via another link, that categorizes the games by type.
