Drury Panthers Begin Preseason Practice

Drury Panthers Open Preseason Practice The Drury University Panthers opened their preseason practice on Monday this week. It’s two-a-days for the players and the coaches. I took in the women’s morning session and the men’s evening session yesterday. Big day locally, with the men’s roster now featuring seven local players while the women have one, although I expect that to improve next year.

Pictured is Glendale’s Danny Collins (2007) defending Kickapoo’s Adam Peterson (2007) during last nights scrimmage. Kickapoo is also represented by Alex Palmer (2007), starting goalkeeper Michael Lassen (2004) and regular winger Bryan Simpson (2006). Glendale’s Stephen Conner (2007) and starting midfielder Steve Wilzcewski (2006) represent the Panthers this year.

Additional recruits include Grant Bowden (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee), David Emnett (St. Louis, Mo./SLUH), Joe Huppe (Kansas City, Mo./Bishop Miege), Taylor Stacy (Lincoln, Neb./East) and Micah Whorton (Belton, Mo./Raymore-Peculiar) Not listed on the current roster but in camp are transfers Ben Nabers (Memphis), who’s older brother Stephen is already on the roster as well as a pair of internationals, Peter from Ireland and Ben from Scotland (Dundee).

The team was picked seventh in the Preseason Coaches Poll which would put them into the 8-team Conference Playoff for the first time.
