The Game of Their Lives - Tonight at Founders Park (Free!)

Adu wallpaper Looking for something fun to do tonight? How about a soccer flick? The movie “The Game of Their Lives” features the story of the US Men’s team and their win over England in 1950 at the World Cup in Brazil. The team included several St Louis-based players and the first 1/4 of the movie is based on events in St Louis associated with the story.

The movie was filmed during a summer in and around St. Louis’s Italian neighborhood known as “The Hill”. Many of the family-owned businesses there participated, and were transformed into part of the set with temporary facades and storefronts to give a 1950s-era feel. This is a must see for anyone interested in the history of the game. There are many cameos by present players including Freddy Adu.

Movies at Founders Park are presented by the City of Springfield and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. Movies at Founders Park offers a contemporary version of the drive-in theatre at Springfield’s founding site. Fridays are Family Night; Saturdays are Date Night. All movies are rated G, PG, or PG-13. All movies are free with a ticket. Tickets are available at the Busch Municipal Building, located at 840 Boonville, Jordan Valley Ice Park or the Chesterfield Family Center. For more information, call 864-1010.

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a relaxing evening under the stars. I’d highly recommend it. Oh, and sign up to receive a weekly newsletter on events in the Downtown area by visiting the “Its All Downtown” website. Tell Kathryn that Ole sent you.

Look for the older brother on Home Improvement and the lead singer for Bush, the band, not the President.
