Final - Michigan Wolves 3, Springfield SC 1
So it comes to an end, after four great days of futbol, with the boys representing extremely well. As a Wolves coach noted, they were aware of the reputation of the team for winning their MRL Premier Division and State Cup bracket but were especially impressed with the quality of the defense and organization of the team.
After having lost in the knockout round each of the past two years, the Wolves are aware of how our boys feel after today’s game. They will need to knock off the Chicago Magic now, 3-0 winners in their semi, to win Regionals finally. The Wolves are a Club that is 33 years old, well-established and with multiple teams in the knockout round. The game could have gone either way, with several good chances that were barely denied.
From Missouri, it looks like the only team to advance to the Finals is the U17 Girls team from St Louis SC who won 3-0 today. The boys U15 team were beaten 2-1 with Skyler Russell getting the lone goal. More info, and another of my photos, can be found on the US Youth Soccer website. And I’ll be back with more photos over the next two days. Be sure and check back for photos of your teams games.
For newcomers, click on any photo and you’ll be taken to a seperate photo site where you can download low resolution photos of your team. If you would like to purchase the originals, contact me.
In the meantime, check out usyouthsoccer.org for a picture of Chris Tombridge on the Region 2 Championship page. Yes, it’s mine ![]()

We are SOOOOO proud on you guys, you can’t even believe it!. And we still have 3 more years. “We’ve only just begun”. Thank you Cory and Jeremy, and all of the coaches. And of course we would all be lost without Ron!! And thanks Steve for such great pics of the games. We ARE the CHAMPIONS!!!!!!
What an incredible journey the U16 team has provided! I must say this past year of following the team and watching these young men grow has been amazing. This team is very special and has proven to everyone what can be accomplished by working together towards the same objective. Special thanks to Cory Carr and Jeremy Alumbaugh for all of your commitment, time, and direction you have provided our team in accomplishing something that has never been done before by a Southwest Missouri team. I could not be more proud of how our young men performed on and off the field, they have represented SSC and Southwest Missouri extremely well. Congratulations to the team, I can’t wait to see what you can accomplish next year!
Great story about “the Cinderella team” from Springfield on the region 2 website.
And there is the pic of Blake doing his “karate kid” move. And even Partch was given credit for a play. See Partchy, you really were there……….all the way from Japan!!
