The Demize were shut out this evening, 2-0 by the undefeated KC Brass. The Demize love to attack, making for an entertaining game, but they came up on the wrong end of the score this evening. The Brass took the lead in the 28th minute on a heads up play by their midfield leader, Keith Gorczyca (Drake/MVC). While the Demize central defender was complaining about a non-call by the sidelines, Keith sent Jimmy Cummings into the box essentially unmarked with a throw-in. Jimmy’s shot as a defender closed found the upper 90 for the 1-0 lead that the Brass took to the locker rooms at halftime.
The second goal was scored in the 70th minute by defender Josh Howard. The goal came following a corner kick. The initial ball was nodded to a Brass player who settled and shot. Goalkeeper Cesar Cereijo (Drury) pushed it wide but there were two Brass players in the 6 yard box. Josh put the ball into the net off the rebound. Minutes earlier he saved a certain goal from Neil Covington’s (Drury) shot. The Demize continued to attack, launching 9 shots on goal in the second half alone, but were unable to dent the net.
The Demize move to 2-6-1, including 2-2-1 at home now and 0-2-1 against the Brass. The Brass move to 5-0-1 with 16 points for second place in the Heartland Division of the Central Conference. The trail the St Louis Lions who have 18 points from a 6-3 record after splitting a pair of games in Thunder Bay. I see the Lions have a game at Chicago on Thursday that will be played at the new Toyota Park, home of the Fire. That should be quite the experience for the boys.
The Demize have three home games remaining before they complete the season on the road. The first is this Saturday against the Sioux Fall Spitfire, winners over the Demize on May 19th in Sioux Falls. It is the only win Sioux Falls has this year so the Demize will be out for revenge and to get back to the winning at home again.
I’ll be in Des Moines, covering the Springfield SC U16 boys squads efforts in the Regional Tournament as well as a pair of Des Moines Menace games against Thunder Bay. So I’ll see you at the games on June 29th and July 7th.
