Missouri State Cup: Swanner United U18’s Beat Springfield SC via PK’s

DSC_0957 Following a scoreless regulation and two 15 minute OT’s, the win came today via PK’s. It went to nine shooters, with both teams making four of five before sudden death. The Swanner keeper made the save (pictured) on the ninth and his teammate buried his shot to earn the win.

The opportunities during the course of the match were limited, but Swanner’s right mid Randy Bakula ensured that he and his teammates would have more time when in the 2nd minute he cleared Luke Prater’s diving header off the line. Springfield SC had another fine opportunity in stoppage time of the first half when Tyler Northrip settled, turned and shot.

Swanner United went a man down late in regulation following a foul in the middle third that led to a red card. While Springfield SC pushed forward consistently during the overtime periods, it was Swanner that came closest. Futura United is their next opponent.

I’ll be covering the U19 KC Pace vs St Louis SC game at 1:30pm Sunday. Come back for a report on the River City FC WPSL game this evening as well.

Congrats on many great years of soccer. Many of you boys have played together for many years and it will be tough not seeing you guys playing together anymore. We are proud of all of you and wish those continuing soccer in college the best of luck. Remember life is not remembered by games won or lost, but by the friendships that were made during those wins & losses.

Adam, me and your mom are very proud of you and the dedication that you gave on the field. We can’t wait to see you continue that next year on Drury’s soccer fields.
