Pershing Earns Another Middle School Crown

LCS Middle School Semifinal - Pershing Generals vs Bolivar Liberators Sounds like the game last night between Pershing and Catholic was a good battle between two teams that know each other well. It was a 2-1 win for Pershing in overtime, with Mollie Brewer getting the game winner. I’ll let a parent offer a description:

Emily Cline scored early for Pershing. Nice goal.

Pershing hit a couple of posts in the 1st half. Rachel Scott made a great save on one of Cline’s shots late in the first half.

Catholic was dominant in the 2nd half. Scored with approximately 7 minutes left in regulation as a ball bounced around the box and found it’s way into the net. I don’t know who got the goal for Catholic.

No score in the first 5 min OT. Molly Brewer (pictured in red from the semifinal game) scored a screamer of a goal with two minutes left in the second OT. Pershing held on for the win.

The win avenged an earlier loss to Catholic in the regular season. It also tripled the number of goals Catholic had given up on the season, from 1 to 3 total. Catholic may have been at a disadvantage since I know of more than one player who has already left on a family vacation. Nonetheless, it sounds like a quality game for both squads.

  2. i dont play for catholic but i do know a lot of the girls. I also know a few of the girls from Pershing. i actually play for another middle school in soringfield. So this is not a biased comment. I really believe that catholic is the better team in this situation. I understand that 2 of catholic’s best players were gone but im not using that as an excuse. congrats to pershing…it just wasnt catholics night on monday. it was already proven earlier in the season that catholic was a much better team with their 5-1 beating of Pershing. The final score didnt show the play of the game at all on monday. Catholic possessed the ball most of the game…they just couldnt finish it. And great job to Rachel Scott, she really did have some awesome saves and stopped emily cline every time it was 1 on 1. it was a great game to watch and catholic does a really nice job of possessing. Good job catholic you worked so hard this season and did so well!
