Despite the end of the High School girls season, there seems to be plenty to cover in the Springfield Soccer region. Of particular note, it will be a busy evening at Lake Country Soccer tonight. The Springfield Sister Cities Association is hosting a team from Tlaquepaque, Mexico (2005 squad is pictured) later this month. Beginning tonight there will be tryouts for boys born in 1992, 1993 and 1994 who are interested in playing in a series of games against the visitors. More information and registration material is available on the Lake Country website. Get out and Represent boys!
In addition, the Middle School teams from Springfield Catholic and Pershing will gather to determine the Spring Champion. Game time is 7:30 pm and the game will be played on the North Fields.
The CONCACAF Gold Cup Tournament begins this week. The US has a game against Guatemala on Thursday and Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday. Fox Soccer Channel is required but the games are being broadcast live. I need to fix that…
By the way, one way I keep up with what is going on is to subscribe to the US Soccer website and the Men’s National Team blog. Both have RSS feeds, just like this blog. For Google users, there is also a well maintained calendar. I’d highly recommend it.
Closer to home, I’m planning on a trip to St Louis this weekend. The final round of the State Cup starts Saturday morning. I’ve got Tara Baile’s St Louis SC - Fine squad in U18 girls on my radar, and I’m guessing that Sophie Cox is helping St Louis SC - McDoniel defend their State Championship last year as U18’s in this years U19 round. On the Boys side, Tyler Williams and his Scott Gallagher teammates will look to defend their title, this time as U18’s and the KC Pace is coming back for three in a row as U19’s. The Springfield SC is the only local club that is represented, their 10:30 am game will be my first of the weekend. I’ll keep you up-to-date from St. Charles.
While I’m in St. Charles, the Toyota Cup will be going on in Jefferson City. An alternate competitive outlet, I see that SpringHigh Select has a pair of boys teams entered, the Rolla Knights have 3 boys and 1 girls team, the TSC Scorpions are playing, and Carrera is competing as well. Good luck to all!
I’m going to point to any and all soccer camps that I have information on during the course of the week. If you are holding a camp or clinic this summer, and I haven’t received information from you, please send it in so I can help advertise your efforts.
Countdown to the High School All-Star game is only 17 days. There will be game day information going out to the players tomorrow so please make certain I have your contact information. Booster Clubs - contact me if you’d like to sponsor an ad in the Program recognizing your players. See you there on June 21st!
