I’m traveling to Rolla this afternoon to take in the District 11 Final between Rolla and Lebanon (I saw the District 12 game in Joplin last year). I’ll provide scores as soon as the game is complete. If you’d like to provide a game report from Kickapoo, I’m accepting contributions

The game tonight, at Rolla’s sparkling new facility, was worthy of a final. Knotted at 0-0 at the half, both teams came out hard and played the games they have spent the season honing. 90 seconds into the half, Rolla thought they had a goal only to have it called back for offsides. Olivia Cox was sent into the six yard box via a flick on header by Jaclyn Standfast a few minutes later only to see Abby Roam snatch it away. The Yellowjackets Hannah Winkel made a run down the left side and her shot in the 51st minute required a diving save by freshman Adrian Pogue. It was the 55th minute when #4 got the eventual gamewinner, receiving a ball from sr Kellie Lemen and putting a shot from outside the box over the keeper’s head. I’ll let Kellie Lemens describe the game winner for you.

The Yellowjackets reached the District Final for good reason. Sr. Courtney Chode got off a shot from the top of the box a minute later while Winkel and freshman Emily Boyer both created several opportunities as Lebanon stormed forward to equalize. Despite their best efforts, Rolla showed enough resiliency and stamina to hold them off and properly christen their field. In fact, the girls insisted on having the team photo taken in the goal that they scored in.

#1 Kickapoo Chiefs - 2
#3 Joplin Eagles - 1
Jr. Paige Blotter, continuing her fine form after last years injuries, scored in the 4th minute on a shot from just outside the box to give the Chiefs the early lead. The second goal came in the xxth minute, by so. Abby Anderson on an assist from Katy McLain. Joplin got within one in the second half when jr. captain Jessica Baker scored but were unable to get the equalizer.

The Sectional game will be played at Lake Country Soccer on Tuesday May 22nd beginning at 6:30 pm. The Rolla Bulldogs will face off against the Kickapoo Chiefs for the opportunity to play in the Quarterfinals against the winner of the Rock Bridge vs St Joe’s game.

Columbia Rock Bridge defeated Jefferson City 2-1 to win the District 10 title. They will face St Joseph’s Academy in the Sectional on Tuesday for the right to play the winner from one of our four squads.
