An update to the title of the post. I have neglected Waynesville somehow in my calculations and as noted in a comment, the Tigers are 7-2 in the Ozark Conference. If Glendale loses to Kickapoo tomorow, they will also finish at 7-2. One of Waynesville’s losses is to Glendale so depending on your method of calculating titles…
Rolla Bulldogs - 3
at Lebanon Yellowjackets - 1
The Bulldogs dug deep and dashed the dreams of both Lebanon and Waynesville this evening. Lebanon’s lone goal came from Brianna Ragains on an assist from Hanna Winkel. Rolla got goals from Kaitlin Bramel and Ashley Kerr (2) Lebanon finishes 6-2-1 in the OC while Rolla is 5-3-0 with a game against West Plains remaining.
Waynesville Tigers - 3
Springfield Catholic - 1
Jeff City Coach Chris Miller noted yesterday that Waynesville is one of the most athletic teams he has seen this year. I noted earlier this season that Waynesville is faster and more physical than Catholic. A very talented Fightin’ Irish squad discovered this evening what we were talking about as the Tigers earned an important win in advance of Districts next week.
Coach Ben Timson from Catholic offers his feedback on the game:
The penalty kick 90 seconds into the match really put us in a hole. But to our girls’ credit they battled back and leveled the match in the 19th minute on a nice goal by Sarah Martin off a cross from Maddy Renner. I felt we possessed the ball very well, especially in the midfield with Bailes and Holtman. Shots on goal were 10-5 in our favor for the match. To their credit the Tiger defense came up with timely plays. Orielle Thomas played well from the stopper position and Crystal Hutchinson had a nice game in goal. We knew the speed of Pritchard and Lord would be difficult for us to handle and it was, but for the most part our defense held together well against the long switches from Lord on the right outside toward Pritchard up top on the left. Ali Musgrave did a nice job against Pritchard while Anne Prenger and Alicia Tonjuk played very well in our central defense. Coach Scott made a great move with 12 minutes to play when he sent Lord up top with Pritchard. She hit the game winner with eight minutes to play on a well placed ball to the far post side netting. The Tigers added an insurance goal in stoppage time on a counter when we were pushed forward trying to equalize.
Coach Josh Scott of Waynesville
Second half saw two counter attack goals by Waynesville. Natasha Lord scored with 13 minutes remaining from a through ball by Lauren Kelly and with 7 minutes left Kelly knocked in a rebound off of a Lord
deadball shot.“Crystal Hutchinson had a fantastic game tonight. She made several unbelievable saves. I am very happy with the way we are playing defense this year. This is a great win for the girls before districts next week.”
Bolivar Liberators - 3
at Parkview Vikings - 0
The Liberators came to town and earned a shut out win over the Vikings. The first goal came in the 7th minute when Andrea Porter (pictured, in blue) one timed the ball and buried her shot into the far corner, slipping under the diving goalkeeper. The Vikings and Liberators both attacked consistently this evening as the first half continued but it remained at 1-0 when I headed over to Harrison Stadium. I wanted to be certain I had a chance to see the Pleasant Hope Pirates this season.
Pleasant Hope Pirates - 6
at Central Bulldogs - 1
The Pirates came to Harrison Stadium this evening and enjoyed the speed of play on the artificial surface. Led by Amanda Evans who scored all six goals, all on breakaways, including the fourth (pictured) when she put the rebound from the save into the net. Otherwise it was balls over the top of the defense by her twin sister Alizabeth, that allowed her to get behind the defense this evening. The Bulldogs got several saves that were certain goals from the hard working defense but it was not enough on a humid evening. The always reliable Myriah Hicks scored in the 16th minute for the Bulldogs, on a hard shot to the upper right corner from just inside the box but it was not enough tonight.
Joplin Eagles - 5
at Marshfield Blue Jays - 1
Willard Tigers - 2
Nixa Eagles - 0
Neosho Wildcats - 3
Hillcrest Hornets - 1

The Waynesville Lady Tigers dug deep and pulled out a victory over the Irish of Springfield Catholic, 3-1.
By all accounts it was a very competitive & hard fought game.
Comment on Rolla Game- Rolla’s win over Lebanon actually moved Waynesville into 2nd place in the OC and a chance of a tie for 1st pending the outcome of the Kickapoo/Glendale game on Wednesday.
The slower and less athletic Catholic team outshot Waynesville 20-5 and possesion was dominated by Catholic. Waynesville was awarded a penalty kick in the first minute for no understandable reason which ruined an otherwise enjoyable match.
Willard 2 Nixa 0.
Willard was a good test for the Eagles last night who face an uphill battle with injuries the remainder of the season. Nixa played the entire game without 3 starters Jessie Yach, Kristen Thurmond, Luce Crim and no-less important defender Alesia Harp and midfielder Tiffany Graham .
To their credit Nixa played their best team possesion game this season. Without the usual go-to players they realized everyone is a go-to. In my “unbiased” opinion, meaningful possesion was marginally in Nixa’s favor but the Eagles continue to suffer from a real lack of finishing ability. Willard went on the board first midway through first half with a Nixa own goal. The tigers second goal came late in the second half when Eagles adjusted forward to seek a tying goal.
As a side line note; I spoke with Regina Bodine after the game and told her the first year we played them I didn’t think I would ever like her. Bo and Adrienne had a couple of pretty good confrontations their first few games and Regina always seemed to play a game of intimidation. That has changed over the past couple of seasons and last night I told her I have really come to enjoy watching her play. She has turned into a real classy player and a great team leader. During the game last night she patted Nixa freshman Jo pavlowski on the back in genuine appreciation after one of their many one on one battles. I can’t remember any other player in this area make that kind of gesture during game play in the past 4 years.
In response to Scott’s comment.
The shots on goal difference was 10-5; the goal difference was 3-1
I think every team in the area has had their share of injuries, not just Nixa:
Catholic lost Garrison
Kickapoo lost Whitney Hall
Rolla was missing Kaitlin Bramel
Ozark was missing Melissa Hogan
And at Glendale: Im out with a broken ankle, Marisa broke her tail bone, Megan tore her ACL, Lindsey Sprouse is suffering foot problems, Laura tore numerous ligaments in her elbow, Jordan pulled her hip flexer early and Lauren Bettlach tore her quad…
Injuries are part of the game…EVERY team has theirs (some more than others…and some worse than others)
Good point Lou. Soccer is very physically demanding with a lot of games in a very short season. This of course means if you take a week for recovery time you’ll miss 3 games. Most girls will choose to play hurt and risk becoming injured instead. I don’t blame them, I probably would have too.
Wow, so much for my whining. I didn’t realize all 7 of you Glendale ladies couldn’t play. Makes us seem almost lucky with 5. You must have a deep bench to still be playing at your level.
I hope your recovery is the best your doctor’s ever seen.
The sgf website has always been one that stays positive and appreciates good soccer regardless of who plays it, I hope it can remain so. “SCOTT” saw a different view of the same game than we did on the other end of the bleachers.
The shots on goal are clearly shown on the score board (10-5 in favor of Catholic), the foul in the box took out our player and was “understandably” called. The pk was made. Catholic played a quality game where they controlled a majority of the minutes with very strong mid-field play. Way. scored 3 times, Catholic 1. Way won.
All teams have played a game where they thought they played better than the opponent, but lost.
I’m sure our memory of last years game in the “splashy wet small field” of Catholic, which took away our 2 strongest advantages (speed & quickness) may be entirely different than Catholic’s. The “faster more athletic” comment didn’t come from Waynesville, but will be remembered by Catholic next year. That’s how rivalries are made. Why don’t we parents & spectators let the girls play the game & just appreciate good soccer. The girls will be grown and gone soon enough, lets stay positive and enjoy the game.:)
Injuries, Lou is right we all have them.
Waynesville lost it’s senior defender Janai Miller for the year in the 1st half of the 1st game. That’s soccer, but it’s not fair, especially to those who are injured.
Sorry to Steve. My comment was in
response to “SCOTT”.
