MO State Cup: Springfield SC Wins U16 Crown

MO State Cup: Springfield SC U16 State Champions

With goals from Matt Medley and Devon Newport, Springfield SC defeated St Louis SC – McDoniel 2-1 this afternoon. I’ll be back with more information Monday and Tuesday, including interviews with Club Director Jeremy Alumbaugh, Missouri Director of Coaching Denny Vaninger and Team Manager Ron Moses. And I have to offer a shout out to the parents, who went out Saturday afternoon and had the t-shirts made overnight in anticipation of today’s outcome. Well done to all involved!

The result? The boys are going to Iowa to represent Missouri in the Region II tournament June 22nd to 27th in Des Moines, IA. I’m going to have to make some hotel reservations it looks like :)

The team will be in attendance at the MSU Bears game against the KC Wizards on Monday evening. Please come out and support them and share in the win when they are introduced at half-time of the game.

This team is something special! Never rattled, always confident and very professional the way they go about things. This team has started something that will allow every Springfield Player to realize that they can compete with and beat the very best. It was very exciting to witness the first team from Springfield to ever win a State Cup! The T-Shirts made my day and the post-game chant was the icing on the Cake!! As a board member we can’t thank the Coaching Staff of the Club enough for all of their hard efforts this year and all the previous others that allowed these fine young men to realize their goals. A big thanks goes out especially to Jeremy Alumbaugh and Cory Carr for preparing these boys to be State Cup Champions. To all the U16 players (on the Cup roster and off) congratulations on making yourselves the very best!! You all were vital to this very difficult achievement. The Club is extremely proud of you and all the other teams that represented Springfield Soccer Club so well!!! To the U16 players–Good Luck in Regionals! Hope I get a chance to see you Compete once again.

  5. Awesome job guys! Springfield is definitely on the map and getting attention!

The U16 SSC team mentioned above need to pay attention and at least tryout for the Springfield Demize Reserve Team to offer themselves higher opportunitites for level of play and attention by the Pro Teams. The talent is here and the next level is available to them!

Springfield has it’s own team now. The soccer community needs to support it for the benefit and advancement of our local talent.

    Go Springfield Demize!
    Go SSC!
    Go Total Soccer!
    Go OPSA!
    and all the other
    Clubs in the area.

Springfield is showing it’s talent! It’s here! We just have to develop it.

  10. Zach says:

    To the SSC 16 boys,
Congratulations on your run through cup this year and good luck going on to Regionals in Des Moines. Your hard work and dedication through Midwest Regional League play, college showcases, Final 4 showcases and numerous other tournaments was all in preperation for what you guys earned this weekend in winning State Cup. You have been knocking on the door for the last couple years now and it was awesome to see you guys get it done and move on to Regionals.
The 16′s, along with every other SSC team that played in State Cup this year did a great job representing your families, SSC and most importantly yourselves as proving you are among the top players and teams in the State.
It is unfortunate that other organizations are now trying to use this recent success to promote themselves. SSC has been providing development to its players and teams for many years. This accomplishment has been in the works for years, many players, parents and coaches have put in a lot of time to help reach this goal. Suggesting that a PDL reserve team will provide the neccesary development for these kids is UNTRUE. Over 100 college coaches will be in attendance at Regionals in Des Moines. This will provide our players an outstanding oppurtunity to be seen as they pursue their dreams to play at the next level. I cannot imagine college coaches attending PDL reserve games.
Hopefully everyone can attend the MSU vs. KC Wizards game and congratulate these boys on their accomplishment. Also good luck to the SSC 14′s, 16′s, 17′s and 18′s in Midwest Regional League play this weekend. I also wish the Springfield Demize good luck in their season.

  11. Kim Melugin says:

    Congrats!! Good Luck at Regionals!

  12. Renee' Curro says:

As one of the owners of the Springfield Demize, I do not believe it was the intent of Mr. Palmisano to take anything away from the boys. They deserve all the congratulations they are receiving and we at the Demize are in no way trying to jump on anyone’s coat tails. I appreciate Mr. Palmisano’s efforts to promote the Demize and certainly feel all of Springfield should band together to promote SW MO soccer to the rest of the State. Perhaps he should have waited for another time to mention the Demize Reserve’s so as not to take away focus from the boy’s success. Mr. Palmisano is not an owner of the team and was speaking as a local supporter. Again, I can speak for the ownership group in providing congratulation not only to the U15 team but the rest of the organization. I believe we can all live together in harmony for the good of soccer.

  13. Ben Timson says:

Congratulations to the SSC U16 boys, Jeremy Alumbaugh, Cory Carr and everyone associated with SSC. Your accomplishment brings great joy and pride to all of us associated with the Springfield soccer community. Best of luck in the regionals!

  14. Mason Shelor says:

congratulations from Mason Shelor u9 ssc player

  15. Rich Garrad says:

Congratulations to the U16s and all of the coaching staff at SSC. I feel very excited that one of “our” teams has broken through and won a State Championship. The guys’ teams are really beginning to show well at all age groups. It would be nice to see the girls’ teams start to compete at this level too…let’s hope it’s soon.

  16. Troy Kennedy says:

It is awesome that all of the hard work the boys have done is rewarded. thanks to Jeremy A. for coming back to SGF to make it happen and for Cory Carr for all the dedication and HOURS of training. These boys will run through a concrete wall for Cory but the most important thing is he is teaching them life lessons. Cory cares so much about each boy and every one of them is a better person because of this. Thanks Cory!

  17. Renee' Curro says:

I apologize, I knew it was the U16 team but hit the wrong key when typing. Again, congratulations to the U16 boys. I often visit with Mike Bennett and had the pleasure of living through their jouney as they came closer and closer to the realization that they could indeed win the whole thing. It was great fun for me even without having a boy on the team. Thanks for the great representation. The entire soccer community is proud of you.

  18. Jill Carr says:

As a coaches wife, sometimes its difficult when your husband spends so many hours on the soccer field but let me just say it is all worth it and I’m so extremely proud of the SSC U16 boys and of course my husband Cory Carr! It’s been a pleasure watching all the games and I look forward to many more. All you boys make me very proud. Your talent, dedication, and attitude is very impressive and I applaud you all as well as all of the parents! Regionals here we come!! We are STATE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Jeff Reinold says:

    Congrats to the SSC 16′s.

What a great thing for not only the Springfield Soccer Club, but the development of soccer in the Spfd area. As a coach of some of the younger teams for SSC, your Championship will be a tremendous tool for the development of the younger SSC players. What a tremendous benefit to the coaches to be able to point to a team in the club and say that is why we do it this way. I for one will use this as motivation and education for players and parents.

Thanks to all the teams that represented SSC so very well at State Cup. Good luck to the 16′s at Regionals, I hope to be able to make the trip to catch your games.
    Congrats,
    Jeff Reinold

This is a wonderful achievement for you, and for our club. Good Luck in Regionals! It has been a beautiful thing to watch many of you grow as players and as gentlemen over the years. From the time you boys were U-9 through now, you have always had the desire to get better and progress in your abilities. Watching you through the years has been exciting and privelidge for us in the Springfield area.

  22. Doug Wren says:

Congratulations on breaking the St. Louis hex and winning State.
We knew you guys were good last year when our team met you in the finals of the Hurricane Cup. Good luck at Regionals…beat Chicago!
