Waynesville Tigers Coming On Strong

The Waynesville Tigers improved to 12-2 on the season Saturday by winning the West Plains Lady Zizzer Classic. The Tigers were seeded 2nd and faced off against Valley View (AR) on Friday night winning 7-0. Goals were scored by Katie Pritchard 2, Mallory Omnudson 2, Erica Combs 2, and Natasha Lord. Assists were by Lauren Kelly 3, Sarah George, Orielle Thomas, Lord and Allison Keeling.

Saturday they faced Sikeston, the #3 seed. They won a physically grueling game 2-0. Kelly scored twice assisted by Lord and Combs. Crystal Hutchinson recorded her 10 shutout with this win.

In the championship game the Tigers faced #1 seed Notre Dame of St. Louis. Notre Dame started fast and with the help of a brisk wind jumped to a 4-1 halftime lead. Pritchard tied the game at one briefly in the first half with a penalty kick. The second half, the Tigers took advantage of the wind and poured in 4 goals of their own. Pritchard, Lord 2, and Orielle Thomas scored for the Tigers. Tasha Lord gave the tigers the lead with her second goal on a free kick from 40 yards out. Coach Josh Scott offered these words:

“This week was unbelievable. First two great conference wins and then to come and win a difficult tournament. I am ecstatic. You can’t pick out one player to single out.

When you are down 3 goals against a team from St. Louis who plays all of the premiere schools in the state and come back, it was a total team effort. We talked about pride at halftime and the girls responded with the sense of urgency they needed too. This was the first time we did not fold when down to a good team, I can’t say how happy I am for our team. But now it is time to refocus on advancing in conference and districts in a couple of weeks. We have to keep getting better.”

The Tigers defeated the Rolla Bulldogs 3-0 on Tuesday and the Lebanon Yellowjackets 2-0 on Thursday. They play in Joplin on Tuesday as they continue their quest for the Ozark Conference crown.
