From Jefferson City and the Capital Cities Classic:
No. 1 seed Rockwood Summit took home the 2007 Capitol City Invitational championship Saturday In Jeff City after slipping past Helias 2-1 in 2 OT in the semifinals and 1-0 over Pattonville in the finals. Summit fell behind Helias early but rallied in the second half to tie and then got the game-winner with about 5 minutes left in the second extra frame to beat a game Helias team on its own field. Summit then controlled Pattonville in the finals, got a goal and held on for the win in both school’s tournament debut.

The host Jays finished third by virtue of a 1-0 win over rival Helias in the 3rd place game on Helias’ field. Freshman Molly Cowley provided the game-winner 6 minutes into the second half and Jessie Sanderson recorded her 7th shutout for the winners. The two teams will meet again Thursday in what will sure to be a game with higher emotion and intensity. Neither team Saturday had much left in the tank with both teams nursing numerous injuries and drained from the grueling semifinals. JC lost in the semifinals to Pattonville 3-2. The Jays fell behind 2-0 at half, but rallied to tie it in the first 20 minutes of the second half on goals by freshman Kara Steiner and junior Kelsey Sanders. JC had several excellent opportunities to go ahead, but the Pirates advanced with a several excellent saves by the GK and well-placed shot with 10 minutes to go. The loss ended the Jays’ 11-game winning streak.

Catholic rolled to a 3-1 halftime lead over Rolla and made it stand up in the 5th place game. Ft. Osage and Joplin went into PK’s in the 7th place game, where Joplin prevailed.

    In the West Plains tourney:
Waynesville beat Sikeston (2-0 I believe was the score) and advances to the championship game where they will face Notre Dame at 3 pm.

That means that Sikeston will face Moberly for 3rd place.
