Willard Tigers Deny Bolivar Liberators

Willard Tigers vs Bolivar Liberators In a game with significant District implications, the Willard Tigers were able to defeat regional rival Bolivar by a 1-0 score this evening. The goal was scored by #4, jr Patsy Middleton (pictured in grey) on a header from the left side of the box, when she redirected senior captain Regina Bodine’s cross to the far post beyond the keepers reach. The goal was scored in stoppage time, just before the half time whistle and shortly after sophomore goalkeeper Tiffany had stopped a break away goal by Middleton.

The game was hard fought, as befits a pair of teams that know each other as well as these two do. Very evenly matched, it became a fight for survival in the final twenty minutes for the Tigers as the Liberators threw everybody forward, taking advantage of the wind to keep Willard pinned down in their end. Bolivar was denied the tie when junior captain Lindsey Archer saw her shot bounce off the left upright and roll out-of-bounds in the 77th minute. I chatted with senior Regina Bodine of the Willard Tigers following the game about the importance of the match and some background on the Tigers.
