Some more change at the coaching level here in the region. Matt Huntley of the Carthage Tigers sent this note recently:
I am writing this email to inform all of you that I have resigned from my soccer duties in Carthage. I was offered, and have accepted a position as the assistant principal at the high school. I wanted to say that I have appreciated getting to know you, learning from you, and competing against you over the past decade. I am leaving my coaching responsibilities with a heavy heart. I’ve loved every moment of it.
The Tigers reached the Final Four in Class 2 in 2004 and are regular contenders at the District level in the region. I’ll be following up with Matt to get some more background on his experiences sometime this season.
In the meantime, if you are interested in the position you should contact Carthage HS Athletic Director Andy Youngworth at 417-359-7034 or youngwortha@carthage.k12.mo.us

I got the chance to play against the Huntley coached Tigers for 4 years and always enjoyed playing against him. He was competitive and tough but very respectful to opposing teams. As an opposing player I would like to say thanks to Matt for being a class coach.
As the parent of two players who have played against the Carthage Tigers for the past five years, I want to let Coach Huntley that everyone involved with the Cassville Wildcat soccer program holds him in high regard. You were always encouraging to our players as our program was the new kid on the block for a number of years. I will also never forget you coming over and talking to our team after we won the district championship in 2005. You showed such class in congratulating our team and offering them advice from your team’s experience in the state play-offs. I think your pep talk went a long way toward convincing our boys they could make it to St. Louis. Good luck in the future and thanks for being such a great advocate and representative of soccer in the southwest Missouri community. You are definitely a first class coach and mentor.
