Kickapoo’s Tom Davidson New Ozark Tigers Coach

Jason Michaels of the Christian County Headliner breaks the news that I alluded to March 30th:

Talk about making a splash. Just days after Ozark soccer coach Tod Sundlie announced his resignation affective following the 2007 girls soccer season, the Tigers announced the hiring of a local soccer legend in Kickapoo’s Tom Davidson.

Coach Davidson broke the news to his teams at a specially called Booster Club meeting on Friday. From all indications it was an emotional affair. He also demonstrates his media savvy, providing the scoop to his new “hometown” paper over the holiday weekend. How about some more examples:

From Friday’s News-Leader
Kickapoo pleased with start

Tom Davidson has never been happier to have a 1-2 record — and probably never will be again. With 12 new players on his roster, the Kickapoo girls’ soccer coach expected a slow start this season.

“As young as we are and as inexperienced, I started looking down the schedule and thought we could start out 0-7,” Davidson said. “I wasn’t sure I would be able to handle it. I knew the kids would be OK, but I wasn’t sure I would.”

Here’s what the Rolla Daily News had to say about the Kickapoo game last Thursday:

Just two games into their Ozark Conference slate, the Kickapoo Lady Chiefs are well on their way towards the conference title. Right now, it looks like cross-town rival Glendale might be the only team that can stop them.

Which will it be? Come on out Wednesday to find out what happens in the first chapter of Kickapoo vs Glendale. Varsity should start around 6:30 pm at LCS Cooper Stadium #2.

Update – the News-Leader joins the band.

Ozark has made an excellent choice for head coach of their girls’ soccer team. As a former player, I had the unique opportunity to play for Coach Davidson on the first Kickapoo High School girls’ soccer team. Coach Davidson has the exceptional ability to guide, inspire, and motivate athletes to develop their potential as soccer players. In addition he is a disciplined teacher who provides an excellent example for young students to follow in both sports and life. I wish him all the best with the new position in Ozark!

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful support you have show Tom, myself and the kids. To the parents of Kickapoo players: you will continue to be in our lives for as long as we are blessed to be on this earth. So many families…from years and years ago are e-mailing and calling Tom and offering their support and encouragement. I think it says a lot about a man when former players from 5, 10, 15 years ago continue to call him regularly just to catch up on old times. His biggest goal each year is to help make responsible, mature, compassionate members of the community….winning records come second to him. With all the attention this has been getting, I truly think it is a testament on how many people care about Tom and how dearly he will be missed at KHS. Just remember….The Davidson’s love soccer no matter what colors you wear. Black and Red will be our colors next season, but brown and gold will always run through our veins. Again, thank you so much for your support and positive outlooks on this new chapter in his and his families lives. We love you all!! Missy
