I’m scrambling to get all of the school schedules from the region and add them to Google Calendar. If you haven’t checked out the Calendar, go to the far right column and click on “Calendar”, under the “Pages” section. You’ll see a list of the HS Girls games scheduled for the coming week(s) in either an agenda format or click on month to see a traditional calendar.
If you don’t see your schools schedule listed, it’s because I can’t find it. Send it to me, along with a roster, so I can do a more effective job of covering your team and its players.
You’ll also find the College Men and Women’s schedules, Spring play begins this weekend for most of the local squads. You can even add these schedules to your Outlook or related calendar application. Instructions are included.
As to this week, weather permitting the Greenwood Lady Blue Jays will open their first year of play by hosting the West Plains Zizzers. 4:00 pm at Lake Country Soccer, Cooper fields. The Joplin Eagles are in Springfield as well, taking on Springfield Catholic. I may get to take in a doubleheader this evening
The Waynesville Tigers visit the Ozark Tigers on Tuesday. The Varsity game begins at 4:00 pm, and will be the first opportunity to see the #1 ranked team in the Ozark Conference.
Friday evening is the annual derby between Kickapoo and Catholic, also a highlight of the season . Kickapoo has walked away with 1 goal wins the past two years, on late game winners. Both teams have faced difficult games early in the season, with Catholic going 1-1 while Kickapoo should feel confident coming off of a 2-0 loss to the defending Arkansas state champions that saw the team work hard and play even until conditioning caught up with them (Rogers is 12 games into their year already). This game also represents the start of my third year of coverage so you can expect to see me there.
Waynesville hosts Richland, Southern Boone, Bolivar, Marshfield and St James at their annual tournament between Wednesday through Saturday. Neosho has Parkview & West Plains visiting for their tournament Friday and Saturday and Ozark hosts a JV Tournament Saturday. The season has definitely started!
The US Men’s National Team plays another game this week, facing off against Guatemala on Wednesday evening. 8:00 pm on ESPN2. I wonder if Buddy will be rooting for Landon to score another hat trick?
The Missouri State Lady Bears will play at home on Saturday afternoon. The ladies have two games under their belt this season, having played at Arkansas (SEC) and Kansas (Big 12) earlier this month. This will be one of two games at home this Spring, you can see them at Plaster Stadium on the Missouri State campus beginning at 1:00pm, playing against Division II opponent Missouri Southern. MSSU is coming off their first ever NCAAA appearance and include All-American Nikki Llewellyn.
The Missouri State men’s team will open play with a game on Friday night at Plaster Stadium. 7:00 pm, Coach Kiley Cirillo (Kickapoo 1996) brings his Missouri Southern squad to town for the friendly. One of two games, plus the KC Wizards on April 30th, when you’ll be able to see the men at home.
The Drury Lady Panthers have a full slate on Saturday. Arkansas State and Oral Roberts University are visiting and the three teams will each play two games. The Panthers play Arkansas State at 10am, Arkansas State plays Oral Roberts at noon and Drury faces Oral Roberts at 2pm.
I think that covers the details for this week in Springfield Soccer. What are your plans?
