I enjoyed three games on Sunday afternoon, title games all.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Springfield SC U14 girls (pictured at left) were facing off against a difficult opponent from Kansas City, the KC Bayern Munich club. The Springfield SC squad finished on top, winning 3-0 with all of the goals coming in the first half with the wind. The Bayern squad continued to battle but Coach Rob Brewer’s squad was able to blunt every attack, giving him two straight titles with the U14’s.
The second match was a title game in the U12 boys division and featured the Springfield SC going up against a U11 Sysmex squad from Columbia, MO that was playing up. While Sysmex had handled their early round opponents, the Springfield squad showed a lot of flair and discipline in shutting out their opponents by a 4-0 score.
The final match of the day for me was the HS Boys Gold Division,
a game that featured the U18 Springfield SC squad that is made up of some of the best senior boys in the area facing off against the East side, or more specifically the Metro United FC U16 boys squad. The game was a tight affair, reflective of the fact that both squads play in the Midwest Regional League 1st Division and regularly face difficult opponents. The game was decided in the 77th minute when a Metro United forward was able to volley a ball that was crossed into the box between an SSC defender and the keeper. The tying goal was scored after the collision featured above. Check out the series of photos by clicking on this one.
