Irish eye’s are smiling this weekend as the big news spreads locally. One of the bastions of area football has added futbol as well. From Tami Millsap, who’s son Levi is an eight grader at Catholic and an active club player:
The Springfield Catholic School Board approved a Boy’s High School Soccer program at their meeting on Thursday, March 15, 2007. The approval was for the program to start with the 2007-2008 season with some stipulations. One of the stipulations was that we must have 12 games scheduled for the boy’s season for Fall 2007 – so we are looking for games to played in our inaugural season! The parents and soccer players in the Springfield Catholic system are very excited with this opportunity. Special thanks to the School Administration and School Board for listening. Jim James and Joe Kofron deserve special recognition for their dedicated work in helping to make this happen.
I’ve talked to several people already who are very excited about this. As a growing sport, it is an important step in this region that is better known for basketball and football then for our favorite past time. It should be a positive step for SCHS as well, as they now have another tool for reaching out to families in the area who can look at the academics AND athletics. There is room to grow in the High School and I’d like think that soccer could play a role in that growth. Well done!

Congratulations to the Catholic soccer players. We attended a similar meeting 4 years ago and was terribly disappointed to have soccer not added. We decided against attending Catholic HS as a result and moved to Nixa. That brings up another idea. Maybe Catholic HS can be part of the Conference Nixa belongs in. Nixa, Ozark and the rest in our group would welcome you. Best wishes.
Congratulations! We look forward to watching the program take-off and grow.
This is a great step for Catholic soccer. I remember playing them in middle school and losing to them. This was long overdue and a positive step for the program.
