The Coaches have been busy in anticipation of today’s start of the Spring season. Anyone see the girls on an early morning run on their way into work today?
1 -Waynesville - Finished last season 18-6-0, return 16 players among them Katie Pritchard who scored 53 goals and Tasha Lord who registered 22 assists. Keeper Crystal Huthcinson also recorded 11 shutouts. Several of the girls just won a district championship in basketball and appear to have figured things out.
2 -Glendale - Last seasons District 11 champion Falcons return four players which include standout keeper Laura McElroy and field general Lou Opfer. They also welcome a very strong freshman class. Missing will be Megan Garrad, Lou’s link in the middle.
3 - Kickapoo - Last seasons State Quarterfinalists lost several key players to graduation and star defender Whitney Hall to injury but still have Chelsea Russell and Katy McLain to lead the team.
4 - Rolla - Lost 8 starters to graduation and star Katelin Bramel is in a cast, they return starters Calli Collier and Kellie Lemen, but no keeper to replace all-stater Emily Moorkamp has been identified yet.
5 - Lebanon - To some the Yellowjackets might be a longshot but to those in the know, Lebanon will be a very good team in the Ozark Conference this year. They return several key young players and played very well towards the end of the season last year. Look for the Jackets to surprise some teams this year.
Thanks to the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association who provide the polls and in this case the summary as well. The All-State polls are also provided by MSHSSCA and in order for a player to be eligible, the Coach must be a member to vote. It’s just one of many services the organization offers to the game. I agree with you. I think the Yellowjckets are going to suprise alot of people. They have a really good team and they may end up doing alot of damage this year.
I didn’t know Whitney was hurt, what happened?
Allie, we lost whitney due to a torn ACL this year!!
Preseason polls mean nothing when you consider that anything can happen on any given day. My guess is that fans of High School Girls Soccer will see many great games, played by dedicated young ladies, this season.
I wouldn’t say they necessarily mean nothing. They arent saying that a certain team is going to dominate everyone else, or so and so has no chance. They are simply emphasizing a teams obivous strengths and/or weaknesses. But, yea…any given day..anything could happen.
What happened to Rolla’s start Katelin Bramel?? Why is she in a cast??
Kaitlin suffered a severe ankle injury the day before district basketball started. Scrimmaging, she came down on someone’s foot, the result being chipped bones on both sides of her ankle and a high ankle sprain. In a brace now, therapy every day, and hopefully back to soccer in April. She’s eager to get back, but trying to make sure it’s not too soon!
Thanks for the update D. I’ve enjoyed watching Kaitlin the past two years and I know Coach Howard was expecting big things from her this year, deservedly so. Hopefully we will see her soon.
