How much fun is this! Beautiful day, I see action on the pitch at Harrison Field and it’s a bonanza. Coach Alf Bilbao (in the background on the left) along with assistan Ryan Swan recently signed three of the top players in the area to join the Panthers this Fall and everyone was out enjoying the Spring-like weather. At least before practice started! (PS - SpringHigh Select Club soccer practice)
Goalkeeper Stephen Conner from Glendale, midfielder/forward Adam Peterson from Kickapoo and midfielder/forward Danny Collins from Glendale will be wearing the red and black of the Drury Panthers in the Fall. Stephen was first team All-State, Stephen and Danny were first team All Ozark while Adam was second team.
Stephen has been the ‘difference-maker’ since making the Varsity as a sophomore for the Falcon’s, especially in the derby’s against Kickapoo. Adam has the vision and get-up-and-go to make an immediate impact in the middle for the Panthers. Danny has the competitive zeal and pace that Bilbao anticipates will allow him to create on the outside, in a similar fashion to his very successful high school career.
Me? I’m just happy to see Coach Bilbao and Swan recruiting in their backyard and creating great opportunities locally. Each of the boys has offered to share their recruiting experiences with the readers so I’m looking forward to having some time to catch up with them very soon. Until then, enjoy the weather.
The Girls HS season begins with formal practice on Monday and you can be certain I’ll be providing coverage of that!
