Soccer Prevails In Iraq

I saw this report on ABC last night, while working on a soccer recruiting video for a client, and it warmed my heart. Soccer is the world’s game. Something even Bush’s daughters appreciate. Maybe they need to take GW out to a game someday.

BAGHDAD, Dec. 10, 2006 — In this city, which has become perhaps the most dangerous place on the planet, there is one thing that seems to quiet the chaos — the national soccer team.

The effect of a big game — like Saturday’s match against Uzbekistan — is amazing. The fighting and the crime in Baghdad come almost to a complete halt.

    Soccer is one of those things that brings people together. Regardless of political or religious persuasion, people will come together to see their team play. Soccer is the great healer of the world.

    Despite the efforts of this administration to create a new sense of national pride and bolster the new Iraq government, the Iraqi people already have their allegiances: To their family, to their religion, and to their football.
