Springfield SC U16’s in Final Four Showcase

Congratulations to the Springfield Soccer Club Boys U16 team. They have been chosen to participate in the Final Four Showcase tournament this weekend. From the Metro United SC website Springfield SC vs Lou Fusz Popovic (U15)

The Final Four Showcase is an elite event for high school club teams that travels with the NCAA Men’s Division I College Cup, collegiate soccer’s version of the Final Four. St. Louis University is set to hold the 2006 NCAA College Cup, and Metro United and St. Louis Soccer Club will host the accompanying showcase. This premier showcase attracts teams from across America and Canada, and as the event coincides with the NCAA College Cup, the Final Four Showcase attracts a large number of college coaches.

The boys earned the opportunity due to their performance in the State Cup and just as importantly, the Midwest Regional League, when they earned promotion to the Premier Division last June. Through the luck of the draw, their first game has them facing the state champion Lou Fusz Popovic squad that narrowly beat them 2-1 in the early stages last summer (that’s Parkview’s Tim Griffin challenging for the ball, in red, from the game June 11th – click on it to see more photos)

The adidas iv showcase is one of the top college showcase events in the country. Having the opportunity to compete against top level competition is a fantastic way for the U16 Boys to start their identification process for college. Every major college socccer program will be represented this weekend in St. Louis. The 16’s earned this opportunity by being promoted to the Midwest Regional League Premier Division, being a State Cup Semi-Finalist two years in a row, and by being ranked the # 3 team in the State of Missouri. It should be a great weekend to see where the players are at after the high school season and help guide our training sessions in January and February.” said Jeremy Alumbaugh Director of Soccer Operations.

The weekend schedule includes games with FC United (STL) and Javanon (KY). I expect to catch a couple of the games so look for reports from here as well as the Men’s College Cup.escorts on call
