Congratulations to Union Latino who defeated Puma’s 4-1 on Sunday to win the Fall Amateur League title. Union Latino was in control from the beginning of the match, getting the eventual game-winner in the 11th minute on a penalty kick by Juan Adan, after Puma’s was broken down by a through ball down the middle that led to the foul.
A mere four minutes later and team leader Salvador Fonseca put UL up 2-0 with his header from inside the six yard box. Things settled down somewhat as Puma’s finally adjusted and moved from a flat back four to a stopper/sweeper configuration to blunt the penetrating runs of Adan and Davic Olmos. It only took eight minutes in the second half for the refreshed Union Latino squad to come out and extend their lead however, this on another fine run and goal by Adan. Juan got his his hat trick in the 74th minute when he picked up a loose ball and made an individual run down that middle. His blast from outside the box tailed away from the goalkeeper and settled in the upper right half of the goalmouth.
Pumas got one back late in the game when they finally woke up and their forwards decided to hold onto the ball. Following some fine work by Kian Sterling (Drury ‘06) in the corner, his cross was pushed wide by the defense only to be settled and buried in the 82nd minute by Scott Deal’s (Drury ‘06) blast from 8 yards out. 4-1 to Union Latino, the new champions.
