Springfield Catholic Captures Middle School Title

MS Final - Catholic Fightin' Irish vs Pershing Generals The Fightin’ Irish continued their run through the Lake Country Middle School league this evening, shutting out the defending champion Pershing Generals by a score of 2-0. The game was a chippy affair, with four yellow cards in the first half alone and a red card to a Pershing player AFTER the game was concluded this evening. I usually enjoy these affairs as the quality of play is very good, some of which did show thru this evening. The majority of the play took place outside of the areas as the boys worked hard to break down any offensive initiative.

The game winner came midway through the first half on a long ball that was served into the box. As the ball came in over the top of the defense, Catholics Austin Lewis was able to corral the ball and he confidently placed a shot to the far corner when Pershing’s goalkeeper slipped on his initial defensive move. The final goal was scored on a well-taken penalty kick by Levi Millsap when a Pershing defender was red-carded for a hand ball in the box, clearing a ball that had gotten past his keeper.

Congratulations to the new champions. As to the post-game red-card, the call was for language and the young man was insolent enough to comment on the lack of a penalty since he’s an eight grader and no longer part of the league. I’m calling on Coach Rogers now to ensure that the fellow pays the price during his JV season next Fall.

  1. Congrats to Catholic, they were awesome this year! I wonder how many of those kids will transfer to other high schools to play soccer, and how many more will just be stuck without at team. That’s just not right.

Many of our kids want to continue to attend Springfield Catholic Schools for the school not the sport. Although we have been unsuccessful in convincing the administration to start a high school soccer program (which I would assume would be strong), we are fortune to have a soccer club that is willing to work with us and possibly provide us with a fall club soccer team that will travel to tournaments in the fall. It might not be a school team, but it will be well coached and we will continue to compete.

If people are so worried about the rules then here are two that need to be followed:

1- If a player recieves a red card and there is a penality then he does it, BUT if there is no penality then he has nothing to serve.

2- The winner of all the sectionals matchups go on to the quaterfinals to play eachother. Glendale has done that so they go on so lets give some respect and hope for the best for springfield soccer.

Glendale IS one of the best teams in the state right now, Some might not agree but the fact is, out of like 100 or so teams, there are 8 teams left and G-dale is one of them.

Oleson I love your site and read it everyday but cant you give our Glendale team the respect and applause it deserves as it makes its run as far as possible into state and represents Springfield while doing it.

    Soccer mom,
I know Oklahoma has high school soccer in the spring. Can you really get 18 quality players to stick around and make it worth while? Good luck. When I was a freshmen alot of my club team, The Titans, was from Catholic. They wanted to do them same as who only it never worked out. We all ended up at Glendale, Kickapoo, and Parkview. Catholic is a football school and probably always will be. Administration is afraid they will lose football players to soccer. They ususally get some great football players because they convert from soccer thier freshmen year. Anyways I a rambling, Good luck, but it isn’t going to work.

Oh, where to start Soccer 6. First, why not use your name rather then a pseudonym?

Secondly, as to 1, there is a penalty. There is no question about that. The red card was pulled and awarded to the young man in question. Your double talk seems to position the situation as if there was no ‘foul’ therefor no penalty. There very much was and if the boy’s coaches (Rogers & SSC) don’t take a step to ensure continuity, then I’d suggest Lake Country consider taking it into account during the next tournament.

Third, as to respect given or expected, let’s start at home. My name is Olson, not Oleson or Olsen or any other variation. Misspell the coaches name on a college application, or a future employers name, and tell me how far you get.

As to offering respect to the Falcons, I’m at a loss understanding where I’ve shown disrespect. Is missing your game, so I could watch my nephew play disrespect? I didn’t see your game and so I reported on what I knew.

You’ve seen my coverage of your team, and you, for four years now. You should be showing respect for the Falcon’s tradition you espouse and understand that you haven’t done anything different, or better, then any of the teams you’ve been on. How often did you lose to Kickapoo in your first three years? And this year? It was an upset.

I agree with Bob Collier, and I’ll take it one step further - quit your yapping and do something about it where it matters. On the pitch. This ‘rag’ I call a website isn’t what matters.

It’s how you, and as the Pershing/Glendale sites noted, and your ‘little brothers’ represent yourself and your school. That includes showing respect, and sportsmanship - for the referees, your opponents, your teammates, your coaches and the fans. Not whatever yapping you do on this website or on the pitch.

You want respect? Go ask Josh Keisker what it takes to get to State. Go look your teammates in the eyes and ask what went wrong last year against Marquette. And quit wasting that energy leaving meaningless unattributable comments on my website.

Buddy, we moved here a couple years ago from Oklahoma and I will tell you that the competitive club coaches hated high shool soccer in the spring.
Youth club championships are always in the spring and there were lots of conflicts between club soccer and high school soccer. They all envied the way Missouri did it.

I know there is no soccer team at catholic but im thinking about proesting or something along that line to get a soccer team. Our middle school wont support our team at all. nowbody in our school (besides the 7th&8th grade)even has any idea that we won the city championchip. They woulndt even announce that there was a champion chip game. The vice princeple actualy said ” The reason they dont announce anything is because its not a school sport”. Its middle school soccer I think its a School sport. O well. I would rather make a school soccer team but if neccesary i would go play in oklahoma. One last comment Pershing you guys played well last night.

Glendale beat Kickapoo, end of story. Who is the better and who had a better season means absolutely nothing. At the end of the day, we have practice today and a game on saturday. only 8 other teams in the state can say that. people think they know everything and it is getting old. i have never been so disrespected in my life than i have been the past 2 times we played kickapoo by fans AND players. everybody is running their mouth about how we are unsportsmanlike and dont show respect when its coming from both sides. we obviously have something to prove saturday and i promise you we will

I agree with Ryan and earlier comments left about the disrespect shown to Glendale High school. weither it be kickapoo or not if it is any team other than glendale it seems that every posting goes in favor of the other team, and this is something that i do not understand .. glendale can’t win the other team has to play badly or have an off game there is always and excuse for everything we do right, but fact is we beat kickapoo fair , and there is nothing that can be said about that scores don’t lie, and this slanderous talk about glendale needs to stop because as of right now we are now representing the very city you live in in state; and no matter what team it is .. support needs to be shown !

Let’s be positive for a moment.
    Congratulations to Pershing for a
24 game win streak. What an accomplishment. As for the final, very physical well played game on both sides. As for the cards issued, it did appear that the center ref was a bit card happy but you must adjust and play the game. The only card I would comment on is the final Red that came after the game. I wasn’t there, you weren’t there, but if that kid disrespected an adult anywhere close to the rumors I’ve heard it was justified. That is an unfortunate end to a great game and great season. Congrats to the irish players for completing a perfect season. That is a great accomplishment.

Congratulations on a championship season Catholic boys. You had a strong team and played well. You well deserved the win. The Pershing team put a lot of heart and desire into that game and you were able to overcome.
I am proud of the Pershing team for putting everything they had forward. Their determination was evident and they played well. They also need to be proud of their accomplishment to again play in the city championship game.
We are proud to have many of these Catholic boys as friends and team mates on our club team. They all have a great deal to look forward in playing for their club and/or Coach Rogers in the future.
As for complaining about the number of cards or what was said on the pitch, that is over. We are friends and team mates and what is past is a learning experience. Many of the Pershing players were frustated and overcome by the emotion of the game, but they learned from it. While I am proud of my son for not letting his emotion overcome his sense of respect, I see no point in calling for “retribution” as the original blog suggested. Remember, it was just a game.
Good luck to Glendale today. I hope that all of Springfield is pulling for you!
