The Lafayette Lancer boys team reached their second State Quarterfinal game in three years last night, shutting out the Oakville Tigers 1-0 in their Class 3 Sectional match. The goal came from a scramble in the area late in the first half on a second chance shot by Sean Butler, the Lancer’s most reliable goal scorer this year. It took a tremendous save in stoppage time by junior goalkeeper Mike Hamilton (pictured at left) to preserve the victory. His reaction save tipped a point blank shot by a Tiger player over the crossbar. The Lancers will take on Hazelwood Central in a Quarterfinal match on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
St Dominic continued their winning tradition, defeating Ladue Horton-Watkins on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in regulation and four overtime periods. The win sends them into the State Final Four this weekend in Class 2.
