While I was galivanting around in Fenton, enjoying my nephews Sectional match (see story below), there was lots of action in the Southwest Missouri region. The big news is of course the Glendale Falcon’s upset of their main rival, and strongly favored opponent, the Kickapoo Chiefs. The 3-0 win propels the Falcons to the Class 3 Quarterfinals for the second straight year where they will face the Vianney Golden Griffins. Based upon the Glendale Soccer site notes, it appears that this years seniors went 4-0 in the playoffs against their peers. So which was the bigger upset – this one or the girls win over Rolla last May?
In Class 2 action, the West Plains Zizzers easily handled the KC O’Hara squad. West Plains came out strong and completely dominated the game in the first half. They were held scoreless in the first half due to several good saves by the O’Hara keeper. The Zizzers got on the board in the third minute of the second half on a goal by Stuart Ziegler. Four minutes later they stretched the lead on a scramble in front of the goal with the ball bouncing around. Justin Scicluna got the third goal of the game with somewhere around 25 mins left basically sealing it for the Zizzers. THe game got a little chippy in the 2nd half with two Zizzers recieving yellow cards and in the final ten minutes two O’Hara plays were sent off with reds. West Plains completly dominated the play. My unoffical stats have O’Hara only getting one shot on goal which came early in the game.
Hat tip to Tim, an MSU student and I’m guessing, West Plains alum
The Zizzer’s 3-0 win sends them to the Final Four this weekend!
In Class 1, the New Covenant Academy Warriors were unable to shake off the effects of losing their coach who obviously played a large role in the results they achieved this year. The report from an alumni of the team notes – They looked out of it from the beginning as many would put their heads down everytime the ball went out. Belle got on to the board from what looked to be an offside. Their second goal was defintely an offside as the ball was bouncing around in front of the goal and the player that put it in was clearly offside since the ball went back to the top of the box and came back to him on a pass. Their third goal was on a breakaway and our defenders just got caught out of position.
Goals were scored in the 8th min, Jacob Krause from Chris Sellers; 35th minute, Kyle Donze from Lance Cooper; 49th minute, Chris Sellers from Jeremy White. Belle wins 3-0 and advances to the Final Four this weekend.
Actually I said that the Falcons have won the last four times Glendale and Kickapoo have met in the postseason (2006, 2005, 2002, 2001).
Glendale and Kickapoo did not play each other in the postseason in 2003 and 2004.

At what point does a victory cease to be called an upset? 3-0 is a pretty convincing win if you ask me. If you think Kickapoo was a better team, you need to ask yourself what you really know about soccer. Anyways…Who said? Glendale said.
Did someone see that sports writer with his foot in his mouth at the game? Oh wait he wasn’t even there! On a side note, the fans for Glendale were awesome last night. Singing “OLE! OLE! OLE!” and what was that other chant, WHO SAID? Oh yeah…. Glendale said.
Can you guys please show some respect to Mr. Olsen. He puts in many unpaid hours putting this site together and if it wasn’t for him, we would not have any area coverage of soccer.
I still think that Kickapoo is the better overall team, but Glendale did what they had to, came out prepared and were by far the better team last night. For that I congratulate Glendale for the win and hope that they can take it all the way. But can the few Glendale students and fans that are being disrespectful please show how S.W. Missouri has great soccer and show some “class” as you represent the area and continue your journey to the State Tournament.
I`m intrigued by Mr. Collier`s specious comments. I still think the Detroit Tigers have a better team than the Cardinals…guess what?, who cares? How supercilious can you get?
How is it that Kickapoo is always the better team but never wins? Last year for example, Kickapoo was always talked up as the better team but lost 3 games, I think its time to start giving Glendale some more credit than what they have gotten in the past.
Does anyone know anything at all about Belle? Stats, key players, schedule, who they beat (other then NCA and their district) who they lost to etc…?
It was an upset because Kickapoo had already beaten them, so they were supposed to win again. I agree whole-heartedly that it doesn’t matter whether a team is supposed to win or not, all that matters is who wins. But, as the saying goes: That’s why they play the game!
sorry I’m different john then post 7, any info on Belle would be greatly appreciated though.
Last time I checked this was a soccer website and not a display of one’s vocabulary. I’m not impressed with “specious comments” and “supercilous” Is anyone else?
Im impressed with the vocab…i bet half the people that read that had to go look up what that ment….and also Kickapoo had a great team this year but so did Glendale and i think what it came down to was how prepared each team was mentally and emotionally for the game…well needless to say we all know who it was
Kickapoo might have been the better team earlier in the year but a 3-0 win is a pounding. Emotionally and physically they took it to them for a full 80 minutes. I dont see how anyone can say that kickapoo was the better team after letting three in and never putting one in themselves. Soccer dad jsut doesnt have any other idea on what to say because they got beat so bad so he is going to whine and complain about something else – typical. Glendale was obviously the better team they didnt just pull one out at the last second or anything. Yes kickapoo had won the first two but never took it to them like glendale did. Glendale learned from the season and became the best team in the area and one of the best teams in the state and no one can rightfully argue that.
If you look at the record between Glendale and Kickapoo over the last 4 or 5 years you will what school has a better program, enough said.
One of the best teams in the state? Wow, now hyperbole has set in and it’s time to turn off the comments on this story. You all have better things to do, especially as long as you aren’t willing to identify yourself. Move along folks.
