OK, it’s still free wireless time at Mudhouse while I continue to wait for my internet connection from the Vandivort (site of my new office). Despite the hardships, it’s time to start getting caught up on the local news. While I was enjoying “The Gold Rush” and Charlie Chaplin in the new Gillioz on Monday night, a major win streak was being rudely interrupted at the Lake Country Middle School soccer league. The Catholic Fightin’ Irish defeated the Pershing Generals 2-1 to end a 24 game win streak. Head Coach Jim Cook also throws out a challenge, already anticipating that these same two teams will meet in the Finals on Wednesday November 8th.
Bob Jordan also provides a nice retrospective of the last time these two teams faced similar circumstances, in 2001 when Steve Wilczewski (now a Drury Panther) and Ryan Frewin scored goals in helping lead the Generals to a City Championship.
Time as well for the arbitrary pot-shot at the football (rather then futbol) centric programs at Catholic. Maybe it’s time to start that boys soccer team father? You can’t play Logan-Rogersville every week!

True that!!!
Agreed. The fact that Catholic High School doesn’t have a soccer team is a joke and a travesty. Catholic has chased off player after player to other schools, including the Hamilton boys (I believe) just to name a few. They have the talent, they should have a team.
Been there done that! Our daughter graduated from SCHS so we knew what the school had to offer. Tyler attended his freshman year there. Our family then made the decision to attend Parkview HS with soccer being low on our pro/con list in making that decision. The diversity in academics, culture and activities/athletics at PHS made it a great choice not just for our kids but our family as a whole. Good luck to anyone who tries to bring Boys Soccer to SCHS. In the words of the then director of development for Spfd Catholic Schools ‘it’s not about the kids, it’s about the money’. Add to that these words of wisdom from the AD (in response to our point that there are a lot of boys “on the football team” that never set foot on the playing field) ‘even though you’re not very good, you can be on the team and watch others succeed.’
Amen, Susan.
Our family decision to have Matt attend Parkview has been a rewarding experience for us as well.A higher power will probably need to be called upon to ever change the way of thinking in regard to soccer at Spfd Catholic High School.
