Ozark Conference Update

Parkview Vikings vs West Plains Zizzers Parkview avenged their overtime loss to West Plains in the recent Vikings Tournament, winning 2-1 on home turf. The Vikings got two in the first few minutes of the game when Joey Ekstam jumped on a loose ball after the goalkeeper slipped while attempting to clear while Tim Brooks knocked in a quick one as well. The lead seemed tenuous in the second half however as the Zizzers stepped it up a notch and attacked, scoring in the 46th minute. The goal came as a result of some strong work in the middle by Justin Scicluna who received a ball with his back to the goal, fought off a physical challenge and was able to turn to the goal. His touch pass, a soft diagonal ball from the top of the arc, sent Stuart Ziegler into the box where he confidently deposited it in the left side.

That was it for scoring but not for pressure on the Vikings who seemed content to put 8-9 men behind the ball and only occasionally broke out for an attack. It was almost with a sense of relief that they finished this one with the win in hand.

With the win, Parkview moves into a tie for third in the Ozark Conference with a 4-2 record while West Plains falls to fifth with a 3-2-1.

Kickapoo Chiefs – 4
Joplin Eagles – 0
At the half, the Chiefs were in control and were enjoying being on the pitch again for the first time since their win over the Falcons last Wednesday. The Eagles came out intent on trying to stop the attack by double-teaming Melugin and worked hard as a team to stop the most potent attack in the Ozarks but to no avail. Goals came from Melugin, Prater (2) and Peterson. All were wonderful combinations and strong finishes.

Camdenton Lakers – 1
Waynesville Tigers – 1
