Wow. I’m at a loss for words which I’ll leave you to decipher. The Chiefs put on a clinic this evening, establishing themselves as the class of the Southwest Region with their 1-0 win. When they choose to take that role. Having missed the first half of last weeks Parkview match, by most accounts advantage Vikings, all I can assume is that when it comes to the rivalry between the Chiefs and the Falcons, throw everything else out the window. I need to go see that goal again on KOLR10, I’ll be back with more later.
Palmer, to Prater, to Hay. Most dangerous throw-in in the region, to unsung central midfielder (except to his teammates) to Zack Hay who steps up at the top of the box and buries his shot just inside the left post. That’s it blowing past Conners in the photo above. It happens because the Chiefs attack was straight down the middle, it put immediate pressure on the Falcons defense and they spent the first half reacting. It’s not easy defending against Melugin and Williams (will someone call Dan Lucy at KOLR10 and explain how to pronounce Mah-loo-gin? after three years of varsity play you’d think he’d have it figured out by now).
The second half saw the Falcons step up and respond to the challenge although Tombridge was never really challenged in the second half. There was no lack of effort, and there was no lack of attitude on either teams part. Massey let them play and I think we should too.
There will likely be two more games between these two teams before the season ends for one of them. Whether the Falcon’s can come up with a way to break down the Chief’s defense is the big question. And I think I can finally stop tripping over calling Zack by his big brothers name (Nick was my nephew’s Club teammate for 3 years). Well done!
