Creighton Watch

bearhead_125.jpgFolks, I’ve been negligent in keeping you up-to-date as promised as this important match draws closer. I’m going to do that, shortly. First things first however. The Bears are doing their part on the pitch, now they want to help make it easier for you to come out and support them as well. From an email that Coach Jon Leamy sent out late last week:

It has been exciting playing three of our matches so far at Plaster Stadium. A strong student support group has organized and has brought a great atmosphere to our games. The average attendance thus far is 541 people per match. A goal that we have set is to put Missouri State Soccer in the top 50 for home game attendance in the Nation. Last year averaging 600 fans per game would have accomplished this feat. Prior to preseason our players went out door to door and sold tickets to various corporations. They were fairly successful in this first time endeavor.

The game is being played on Wednesday October 4th at the Plaster Stadium. I don’t see a single high school game on my calendar scheduled for that day. It will feature the best D1 program we will see in Springfield this season against a hometown squad that includes four boys from the region (Alford, Bennett, Dryden & Gow) It will be the most significant regular season game the Bears play this year. As a soccer community, this is the type of game we should be supporting. Will you?

Update – I must apologize for posting some information that I hadn’t gotten final confirmation on. The email Coach Leamy sends out is to the Bears Soccer Alumni organization and I was recently added to the list as a media representative. I didn’t realize the limited scope of the email. The ticket package that was referenced was for the members of the Alumni organization only. Again, I apologize for the mistake. If you have a club or other organization that was intrigued by the offer, please contact me.

Update 2 – I apparently stirred some things up in a positive fashion and the Athletic Administration has approved the special group package for the upcoming Creighton game. $50 will get you 50 Adult tickets (normally a $4 cost) for the MVC Conference match against the Creighton Blue Jays. If you’re club or team is interested in taking advantage of this special deal, call the Soccer office at 836-5243 or email JonLeamy (at) missouristate (dot) edu.

PS – Coach Leamy and the entire team would like to thank the two organizations who have already taken advantage of the offer!
