Blue Jays Take Two From Warriors

New Convenant Academy Warriors vs Greenwood Blue Jays In what has all the earmarks of a budding rivalry, a derby to rival Chiefs vs Falcons perhaps, the Greenwood Blue Jays and New Covenant Academy Warriors have faced off twice in three days. Thursday’s game went to OT, won in the 2nd minute on a goal by Chris Aiken.

Today’s game appeared initially as if it might be much easier as the Blue Jay’s scored two goals in the first ten minutes of the match. Brad Cook got the first, making a run from the midfield before slotting it past the keeper. Ross Chafin got the second on a long blast.

You can’t underestimate the NCA Warriors however and the Blue Jays may have learned their lesson after this game. Ten minutes into the second half New Covenant converted a corner kick to get within one and only two minutes later converted a second corner kick to tie the game. Unfortunately for them, only a few minutes later Ross Chaffin was pulled down in the box. His PK was almost blocked as the goalie dove to get a hand on it but it deflected into the roof of the net to give Greenwood the narrow margin that they held to get the 3-2 win.

Quite a start for these Class 1 District opponents. I’ll be keeping an eye on both teams as the season progresses. More scores from the New Covenant Tournament

Matt Cook scored the first goal on a volley over the keeper from the 18 off an incredible cross from left back Chris Algeir. Dylan Montileone started off the second half scoring from the right after a series of give and goes down the sideline. The final three goals were scored from the spot, Ross Chaffin, Chris Adamson and Brad Cook converting the PKs.
