This Week in Soccer

Happy Labor Day to All!

If you would like to enjoy a quality game to go along with your R&R today, consider taking in the Drury Panther’s match against Ouachita University. 11:00 am at Harrison Stadium.

On the High School front, Class 1 3rd Place State finishers Greenwood open their season on Tuesday. They’ll face off against the Class 3 Central Bulldogs at Cooper Soccer Complex. Also of note later in the week will be their first meeting against in-town rivals New Covenant Academy. While these two teams have not created a rivalry capable of being called a derby just yet, this may be the year that changes. The Warriors opened some eyes this past weekend with their performance at the Willard tournament. New Covenant will also be hosting a tournament this weekend that includes Greenwood so we may get an early look at how the Class 1 boys District results will fall.

Glendale also opens, in this case at Ozark Conference rival Waynesville on Tuesday. The chance to see them locally will come on Friday when Columbia Rock Bridge visits. Tuesday includes a full slate of Ozark Conference games so check your favorite teams schedule.

There will be several regional tournaments this weekend, including Jeff City Helias (Waynesville is headed North for that one), the Rolla Invitational and locally, the Christian County Shootout that is hosted by Ozark and Nixa. Ft. Osage and Class 2 3rd place finishers, the Cassville Wildcats, are scheduled to play. Waynesville is also hosting their annual JV Tournament this weekend.

Another thing to point to, especially after my rant related to the Bears yesterday – Fox Soccer Channel begins their live college broadcasts on Wednesday. They open with the St Louis University Billikens vs Marquette Warriors at 7:00 pm. It’s a women’s match with some regional flava! BTW, the Bears lost to the Billikens 2-0 last Tuesday (careful, it’s a download, no stored pages on the Bears website!). Not quite the result they achieved last October!

I’m still waiting to get the details on the tournaments which I’ll share with you once I receive them (remind your coach!). I’ve also only been able to consolidate about a dozen team schedules so I have a ways to go so don’t take it personally if you haven’t received the coverage you had hoped for or feel you deserve. If I’m missing something, then contact me using the Contact form on this site or chat me up at the next game you see me at. I’m not going to have as much time to work on this site as I have in the past so I’m going to need your support/PR scouting to ensure the community learns about the great things happening for our kids.
