Panthers Survive Ouachita Baptist Tigers

Drury Panthers vs Ouichita Baptist The Drury Panthers played their third game in four days on Monday morning, taking on the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. The outcome was 1-0 for the Panthers, with two MRI’s. The only goal of the game came 29 minutes in, from a set piece after jr. Nick Washam was taken down near the touchline on the run pictured at left. Jake Ellison put the ball to the far side of the 6 yard box where Cody Reinberg sent it back towards Tyson Bramley. Tyson redirected the ball into the upper right corner of the box for the game winner.

The Panthers went 2-0-1 this weekend while scoring three goals. Friday’s game ended in a 1-1 tie against a Northwood University Timberwolves team that lost to GLVC opponent Lewis 1-2 in late August. The game Saturday evening against the Upper Iowa Peacocks, a team that lost to GLVC opponent Indianapolis 1-2 last weekend, was 1-0 on a late goal by Neal Covington. Today’s game was against a Gulf South Conference opponent that went 4-10-1 last year, including an 0-2 loss to Drury.

So the fellows are showing the ability to get by the opponents that they need to be beating at this stage but are going to need to find their scoring touch to survive the upcoming GLVC schedule. It begins this weekend with away games against University of Southern Indiana and Kentucky Wesleyan College, followed by a midweek visit to Rockhurst. They return to Springfield September 15th to host the University of Indianapolis and Parkview alum Brian Fishback. Add it to your calendar, the Greyhounds will be one of the teams that is expected to compete for a playoff spot and that game could define the Panther’s chances.
