Chiefs Shut Out Eagles

Kickapoo Chiefs vs Nixa Eagles Kickapoo’s second match found them visiting District rival Nixa Thursday evening. First half goals from Heath Melugin, assisted by Adam Peterson, and Colton Sexton via a corner kick by Aaron Hamilton that came in stoppage time, provided the early lead. The third goal came midway through the second half on a defensive breakdown, brought on by the Chief’s continued pressure. Scored by Zach Hay from the top of the box.

It was a typical District game, physical and active. Nixa continues to impress, for while Kickapoo won as anticipated, the Eagles showed good team shape and they did have quite a few offensive thrusts. Adam Legg was required to cover the entire box to blunt several attacks. The Chiefs have so many weapons that I found myself unable to keep up with the number and range of substitutions. While captains Alex Palmer and Luke Prater were constants on the defensive line and central midfield, 2nd year captain Tyler Williams played forward and central midfield. That’s just one example as Coach Davidson looks at a variety of combinations early in the season while also working to get a very talented group as many touches as possible.

We’ll see scenes like the one above frequently this season. As Coach Howard in Rolla notes

“In my 16 years of soccer in Southwest Missouri, I can only think of a handful of teams that compare to them
