Missouri State Boys Soccer Poll

The second poll has been released. Local stalwarts Kickapoo and Glendale both move up in the rankings, Kickapoo from 11th to 8th, Glendale from 15th to 13th. I’ve also highlighted Vianney’s move into 11th in the poll (they did not make the first poll). The Golden Griffins are important again because not only is Joe Kofron an alum, it’s been almost that long since they’ve been a player this late. New members of District 9, that makes them the likely opponent a Springfield team will need to get past enroute to the Final Four this year. Of course, Rock Bridge and Helias will have a say in that result as well 🙂

Hillcrest Hornets Sting Willard Tigers

DSC02575, originally uploaded by btsportzmom.

The Hillcrest Hornets visited Willard Thursday evening and it was a battle royale. The Hornets broke through to their first win of the season by outscoring the Tigers 6-5. The first goal came in the 5th minute of the match on a pass from Axel (think Michael Ballack, as in German foreign exchange student) to Bryce Collier.

Goals for the Hornets were scored by Bryce Collier, Axel and Taylor. More photos can be found at the link above (btsportzmom)

Wildcats Get Some Revenge

Cassville Wildcats – 4
Monett Cubs – 0
It was with the sweet taste of revenge in mind that Cassville played host to Monett Thursday. Uziel Franco scored two goals in the first half. His first goal was unassisted and his second was assisted by Hector Valenzuela (who loves this site, right Hector?). In the second half, Ryan Schlichtman scored twice. One of his goal was assisted by Aaron Jamieson. Anthony Larson had the shutout in goal. Cassville’s record now stands at 11-4. The 4-1 loss at Monett early in the season now a dim memory.

Joplin Eagles – 3
Parkview Vikings – 2
The Vikings gave up three goals in the first 21 minutes to the Duncan brothers and were unable to come back despite outshooting Joplin 21-8. The Eagles move to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the Ozark Conference while sending a message to the Southwest Region voters.

Marshfield Blue Jays – 7
Central Bulldogs – 1
All I got was the score and it could be off by a goal or two. I went out to cover the game this evening but apparently the JV game was canceled on short notice and there was nothing for me to shoot by the time I got to Cooper. Dang nab it.

West Plains Zizzers – 2
Nixa Eagles – 0
The Zizzers got a 70th minute PK by Justin Scicluna and a second in the 74th from Stuart Ziegler, assisted by Chris Saner, as they continue their run through Southwest Missouri competition with their win Thursday night. They visit Parkview on Tuesday!

Jeff City Helias Crusaders – 5
Rolla Bulldogs – 3
The Bulldogs scoring is increasing as the season progresses. Unfortunately they ran into a team that includes new Division I signee, Chris Miller, who is headed for Marquette. Helias got goals from five different players in the game.

Webb City Cardinals – 1
at Aurora Houn’ Dawgs – 0
The Cardinals got the goal they needed from Manny Alfaro in the 75th minute. They move to 6-6-1 on the season.

Chicago Fire Win 4th Open Cup

A little slow to post today after last nights excitement (and watching the comments flow in) but I’d be negligent to not point to my favorite MLS side and their win last night in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Congrats, it’s also nice to be able to pile onto the pain that I hope Alexi Lalas is feeling in LA. Fitting after one of his final acts on the pitch was to deny the Fire an Open Cup title in 2001.

On a local note, the winning goalkeeper is a graduate of Missouri State University. Matt Pickens is a St. Francis Borgia graduate, from Washington Missouri, and a 2004 graduate of SMSU. Hey Coach Leamy – we need to set up an alumni list where we can keep an eye on this stuff, at least until MSU decides to have a D1 website! Update – some more info on Pickens!asian escort dubai
